Few distilleries matter as much to their local community as the Isle of Harris distillery. Since opening in 2015, it’s become the island’s biggest single employer, turning the tide on decades of depopulation. I spoke to Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd.’s managing director Simon Erlanger for WhiskyInvestDirect. Read ‘A Dram With Simon Erlanger’: https://lnkd.in/eYSCEZcM Mentioned in the piece: Neil McKerrow 2 Ron MacEachran MARK TAYLOR Ian McConnell and Donald Trump.

A whisky region in Scotland is defined as an area with at least three whisky distilleries. Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre (also known because of a certain song) has three distilleries and is therefore one of the five whisky regions. The other four being Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside (as valley in the Highlands) and the Isle of Islay (which

Kentucky gets more booze Visitors than Scotland, in spite of being a much smaller population than Scotland AND having less Distilleries. Ireland's Whiskey Tourism drive ALSO outperforms Scotland. It's tiny, in comparison with Scotch. Tequila Tourism in Mexico has Books, Websites, Trains. It also has properly-funded, Government involvement. Meanwhile, in Scotland, it's a hopeless, really embarrassing state of affairs. It's all about 'the brands', Scotland doesn't individually capitalise on being the World's best Whisky Country. Many think it already does but you have to think, Scotch is drink named after a Country. It should have unique Training, a Website, Books, Apps, a Network, all funded and benefitting Scotland, not people in Hong Kong. Scotland has NOTHING as well-funded as Kentucky. When it comes to funding Scotch Whisky Tourism, Scotland doesn't. Scotch is a heavily (some say, ridiculously) Taxed, UK cashcow. It's not one that benefits Scotland properly. If you look at the Scotch Whisky Association and Visitscotland's all-over-the shop-Tourism drive, it's laughably amateur and hopelessly under-funded. Nobody is in charge. As the link below shows, its really easy to promote an Iconic Booze Tourism product. With lots of money. That's how. The Scottish Government needs a Scotch Whisky Tourism Budget and Policy, immediately. As Financial results and burgeoning world markets show, we can't just leave it up to the Producers who can (and do) make 'Whisky' anywhere, even though this would need to be the starting point. It needs to be a combined initiative for Scotland, THEN for 'The Industry'. There ALREADY are examples of Big Distillery Players coming together to improve things. There already are several joint initiatives. What's a few £million, to £multi billion Corporations? Some, the Corporations of the Richest people in the World. #ScotchWhiskyTruths #TheScottishGovernment #ScotchWhiskyAssociation #VisitScotland

Geographical Indications Certain whiskies have geographical indications, meaning they must be produced in specific regions to be labeled as such. For example, Scotch whisky must be made in Scotland, and Irish whiskey must be made in Ireland. #BourbonCocktails #SmallBatchBourbon #BourbonSociety #BourbonCountry #BourbonGram #WhiskeyTime #BourbonTrail #StraightBourbon #BourbonNation #DrinkBourbon #BourbonOfTheDay

Here's Paul talking a little bit about our story!
Did you know that the Best Gin in Britain was made in Stockport? Meet Paul Sharrocks. Founder, owner and gin connoisseur of Stockport Gin in the heart of our town centre. He met his wife Cheryl on a cold, wet weekend in 2006 watching Stockport County. They both shared a love for gin and decided to crack on with a passion project together, learning the ropes of distilling and flavour combinations. Fast forward to now, and their business is attracting buyers to the shop, earning awards for the gin, and enrolling ‘students’ in their very own Gin School school upstairs. Still in need of a (very) last minute Christmas gift for someone you like a lot? If you fancy buying a bottle of something special or even a gin-making experience, Paul and Cheryl have enough for everyone to get excited about. Find them at 19B St. Petersgate. #stockport #gin #manchester #ontheup #comevisit #stockportgin #tourism
