Hey PDX HSP Community, During this month of the colonial holiday of Thanksgiving, we are thinking about how the work of PDX HSP interrelates with calls for repair from the Indigenous Land Back movement. So for our next community event we are grateful to be hosting Jillene Joseph, enrolled member of the Gros Ventre or Aaniiih people, and board member of the Future Generations Collaborative (FGC). We are very excited that Jillene will be hosting us at and sharing about Barbie’s Village, a land back transfer of the former Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church building and the property it sits on. FGC uses the building as a community hub and is developing a tiny home village on the property for houseless Native parents with small children. Where: Barbie’s Village, 935 NE 33rd Ave When: Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7:00–8:30 pm If you plan to attend, please click the link in our bio to RSVP . Light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. Feel free to bring outside food. This will be a masks optional event. We ask that you stay home if you are experiencing any abnormal symptoms. For more info about PDX HSP, check out our website in the link in our bio. #pdxhousingsolidarityproject #pdx #portland #oregon #black #indigenous #community #allies #reparations #homebuying #firsttimehomebuyer #housing #pdxhsp #events #resources #blackcommunity #indigenouscommunity #nativeamerican #africanamerican #families

Today, on Saint Nicholas Day, we're reminded that kindness is contagious, and its effects can be just as powerful as any medicine. Small acts of compassion, like a warm smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand, can brighten someone's day and have a ripple effect on their well-being. Studies show that kindness can reduce stress, boost immunity, and even improve heart health. So, let's embrace the spirit of Saint Nicholas and spread cheer throughout our communities. Whether it's checking in on a neighbor, volunteering our time, or simply offering a kind word, every act of generosity matters. Let's make this Saint Nicholas Day a celebration of everyday kindness and the positive impact it has on our individual and collective health. #Nikolaustag #StNicholas #Community #GivingBack #Volunteering #KindnessMatters #PayItForward #MakingADifference #Healthcare #CorporateSocialResponsibility #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #PositiveImpact #acnosfamily #acnospharma

One of the reasons why we do what we do at Sirat - The Cleft Warriors Ensemble This indeed made our day! To know more about us, check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/dkejemAh
A simple and beautiful example as to why communities are important 👇🏻 A new parent in our Sirat - The Cleft Warriors Ensemble community recently shared that their unborn baby will have a cleft lip and palate. With support and determination, they’ve chosen to embrace the journey ahead. I was glad to see this message in the morning, it's an affirmation of the message we're trying to convey about Sirat and what people can expect. Sirat exists to ensure that families facing cleft know they're not alone. We connect parents with a supportive network, expert advice, and resources to navigate this path together. Help us reach more families—contribute here or share this post to spread the word. Contribute to the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/gXgWXwB8

Some of us are blessed to wake up on Christmas morning with a room full of love, laughter, and family. The call of our children early in the morning, their voices full of energy and excitement. For me, it’s my very most favorite holiday for those very same reasons. I love traditions and more than anything I love my children and seeing their smiles on Christmas morning. Not everyone has this privilege. Think about children who have been recently removed from their homes, feeling uncertainty, feeling lost and a terrible feeling of grief, not knowing what has happened, not understanding why they are suddenly in a strangers home. Not understanding why “Mom” is not there, wondering where their brother or sister went, why are they not together? Confused about how nice the people are in this new home, but sad because it’s not their home, it’s not their bed, they don’t have their favorite comforting blanket and plush toy. The smell is different, the food looks different, it’s not what “Mom” cooks. Just imagine… This is the feeling of the hundreds of children placed in Foster Care and Residential homes everyday. Its not much compared to all that they have lost, but together we can help share a little joy during the most magical time of the year. Together we can make wishes come true and hope that in someway we have touch the life of a child when they need it most, together we can make a difference! Let’s spread joy together! When participating in Secret Santa you are helping a child in need, who like other children, have wishes and “maybe” a little hope. Interested? Email SecretSanta@HelixHumanServices.org with your interest. We will do our best to match your preferred age and gender. You can help by requesting one wish list and purchasing items on the list. Each wish list is written by each child/youth. I have to say - full disclosure- its fun to see how creative children can get, but sad to see wishes you can fulfill, like “I wish I could see my dad” or “I want to be with my sister”. Other ways to help is making a monetary donation (we do the shopping for you), hosting a toy drive or giving tree, or purchasing an item (or a few) from the Secret Santa Amazon Wish List. Have any questions? Lets chat! To learn more about Helix Human Services and the children and families we serve: www.HelixHumanServices.org To make a monetary donation or learn more about Secret Santa visit: https://lnkd.in/e5MEGNST To see the Amazon Wish List visit (remember as wish lists come in the list of items increases): Link coming soon. Thank you for helping make wishes come true!
This post is calling you to the “North Pole” for another season of cheer, love, and laughter! With Secret Santa, we begin our journey to ensure hundreds of children build memories free from uncertainty and loss during the holiday season. For many children and youth, the joy of waking up to a room full of gifts, family and love is a distant dream. Many of our children are experiencing loss and uncertainty. This is why year after year, our dedicated elves have proven their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the children and families we serve. With their help, we’ve been able to bring smiles to countless faces and spread the spirit of giving during the holiday season. As we celebrate our 159th year, we’re determined to surpass last year’s achievement of granting wishes to over 416 children, especially as the need in our community continues to grow. Can you imagine what it is like to be an older child placed in the child welfare system, due to abuse or neglect in your home, yet you have no role in determining your future? Indiana is one of only a few states that does not offer counsel (attorneys) for foster children and youth. But as Child Advocates, we offer older children a free attorney to stand up for their rights in court through our Direct Representation program. However, we cannot do this work alone. In the New Year, we need help to advocate for more children who deserve to find a safe, loving, and permanent home. You can have an impact in their lives! Support our work as we fight for justice for youth and empower them to help shape a brighter future.
