I was in the midst of deciding which school to attend and dealing with the stress of applications when my friend, who was pursuing his MBA, reached out with the message, "Samson, I have graduated." I was surprised and asked him how. He then forwarded me his email. Knowing how things work in Nigerian schools, I bombarded him with questions like, "So you mean you didn't have to go through the hassle of getting clearance forms signed by the Senate, Dean, HOD, Course Adviser, Library, Sports Center, SUB, CSO, and Hostel head, etc., before receiving this email?" 🚀 Recap of the 2024 National Society of Black Engineers Conference: Atlanta Edition 🚀 Looking back on my time at the NSBE conference in Atlanta, GA - what an incredible experience! It was a blast teaming up with some top-notch professionals and diving headfirst into discussions with both fresh faces and seasoned experts. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with a myriad of talented individuals and be immersed in an atmosphere pulsating with innovation, passion, and potential. Moreover, meeting a multitude of early career and experienced professionals was a humbling and enriching experience. Every conversation brought something new to the table, whether it was a fresh perspective or a nugget of wisdom. It's clear that the talent pool is deep, and events like these just scratch the surface. Huge shoutout to everyone who made the conference happen and to all the incredible individuals I had the pleasure of connecting with. 40 years ago this week I moved 500miles from home to Coventry to start my career at Austin Rover as a graduate trainee in Product Development at Canley. It was exciting times and I had a passion to try to do my bit for the UK Automotive sector. Not long after starting we were introduced to Warwick University and learned the opportunities through academia and industry working closer. Later I enjoyed various training courses at Arden House and the ATC (Advanced Technology Centre) where in the early 90’s we wrote a paper titled 2020 Vision on trends in automotive (we didn’t see the electric revolution!) Yesterday, I visited both the APC and WMG again to see how things have changed and discuss how to work even closer together to move the dial in UK car design and manufacture. What’s changed you could ask? In some ways not a lot - engineers solving the problems of the day with always insufficient funding. In others we have moved a long way. Today, lots of pieces of the jigsaw are there. In the UK we have innovations and manufacturing solutions we can implement and we have the people who can do it. We do, however, need to break out of that very British habit of being modest and start shouting about our capabilities to get the backing it deserves from the investment community. Governments have been supporting innovation and now look like there are green shoots of thinking towards longer term strategic industrial strategy. To me though, right now, it still looks easier to innovate here in the UK then export the thinking and implement the industrialisation bit somewhere else in the World. We need to right that issue soon!

A couple of JROTC instructors sent this in. No rude comments from either, but maybe they "need more understanding" as I've been told recently. "Empower C3" AJROTC of the Jackson (GA) school system. I understand (see? It's working already) that the thinking here might be one last hoorah for the senior cadets, but I would like to make a suggestion. How about using freshman cadets? Those who are just starting out on their JROTC journey? The seniors could be assigned to educate and train a pool of volunteer yearlings and select the best from the pool to ensure a well rehearsed commencement day team with backup cadets and even a cordon. Senior cadets are supposed to be in various leadership positions, I can think of no better way to exercise what has been learned over the previous four years than training the next generation of cadets. The perfect marriage of an ending ceremony and a beginning for future ceremonies. You're out of standards. ❓Why are you not in uniform? That's a, requirement for colors. Maybe freshmen would be better. ❓Why two national colors? Actually, that's probably Nats and GA. ❓Why are the colors being held to the staffs? ❓Why two hands on the staffs? ❓Why are you shoulder-to-shoulder? ❓Why are you all not at Attention? 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals!
