Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA’s Post

CONGRATS ON 5 YEARS! Join us by clapping your wings for Dr Jacqueline Hansted, as she celebrates her 5 year work anniversary as a PHS/SPCA employee! Dr Hansted decided in high school that she wanted a career as a veterinarian for non-domestic animals. One of her first contacts with PHS was when she brought an injured hummingbird to us and saw there was a need for a wildlife veterinarian. Shortly after she volunteered; later became a contracted wildlife veterinarian; and lastly came on-board as a regular employee. Dr Hansted enjoys doing what she loves -helping local wild animals get healthy and returning them back into the wild. Dr Hansted also works in the PHS Exotics department. She enjoys the camaraderie between PHS teams when help is needed. Her proudest moment was when PHS rescued 78 sick reptiles from a pet store. All 78 animals grew healthy and survived thanks to the amazing team work of the PHS staff and volunteers. Outside of work, Dr Hansted is a SF 49ers Faithful, enjoys hiking and visiting national parks, and being an adult literacy tutor. Interesting fact - Dr Hansted is allergic to all animals! In order to do what she loves, she makes sure to wear the correct personal protective equipment and takes her allergy medicine. Thanks Dr Hansted for being an OWL-some veterinarian! We look forward to your continued success as we open our new Wildlife Rehabilitation Center!

It’s pretty impressive that she has created such a career as a veterinarian, usually a high stress job involving being physically close to animals, despite being allergic to all of her patients. It really does show that you can accomplish more than what people would expect as long as you have the tools you need to do your job.
