On World Endangered Species Day, we are committed to supporting communities, charitable organisations, and NGO partners in their crucial work to protect endangered species worldwide 🌎 But how do we make a difference? We enable anti-trafficking NGOs to monitor movements and migrations effectively, equipping them with the necessary tools to disrupt criminal networks. Through our cutting-edge technology platform, we provide valuable insights into wildlife trafficking, while our team of analysts and investigators collaborate closely with stakeholders to end criminal activity 🦈 There are more than 41,000 endangered species under threat of extinction according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Today, we celebrate the efforts of our partners dedicated to safeguarding the world's most vulnerable animals, and we are always eager to work with more organisations committed to animal welfare. Current Patient: Eastern Cottontails Baby season is still in full swing! While some wild animals have their babies primarily in the spring, the admission of Eastern Cottontails never slows down all summer! These babies begin arriving to our Wildlife Hospital in March and continue through late September. Mothers can have 3-8 kits per litter and can have up to 7 litters per year! Generally, however, mothers average about 3 litters each year. This high reproductive potential means that we are bursting with baby rabbits for much more time than any other species. These 5 little ones came to us after their mother had been killed by a dog. They will stay with us receiving intensive care until they are ready to be independent. Eastern Cottontails build shallow nests that are lined with the belly fur of the mother and are covered with dried grasses. Unfortunately, many times these nests are situated in the middle of yards, playgrounds, or flower pots. Like all wildlife, they are just trying to find a place among all of the human development to raise a family. As prey species, the mother will not spend time with the babies except for feeding times, so they are commonly thought to be abandoned. If you find a nest of healthy bunnies, do not panic! Call your local Wildlife Rehabilitator and they will help you determine if those babies need help, or counsel you on how to live harmoniously with the family. As always, never attempt to feed Eastern Cottontail babies. Of all of our wildlife, they have the MOST sensitive systems and can go downhill quickly if they are fed an improper diet. If they require help, a trained Wildlife Rehabilitator will be needed to ensure their best chance a survival. If you have questions regarding native NJ wildlife, please call our Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital at 856-983-3329 ext. 107. #cedarrun #nonprofit #njwildlife #rabbit

Patient Release: Raccoons We are starting to release some of the MANY Raccoons that have been admitted to our Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital this summer! All of these Raccoons came to us as orphaned babies, whether something happened to their mothers or humans forced the loss of their mother by displacement. We receive many calls starting in spring about babies left behind because their mothers were removed from the area. While trapping and removing is not an ideal situation at any time of year, it is even more problematic during the season when babies are born. Please consider calling our Wildlife Hospital for humane exclusion techniques before trapping any Raccoons. These techniques will allow the mother to move her babies to a new location and keep families together! As you can see, these Raccoons are very curious about their new home! They are released as a litter but will eventually become independent of each other. Raccoons are very curious animals and love to explore their environment. This can lead to negative human interactions when they are found rifling through trash cans or dumpsters, hence their nickname, trash pandas! To live harmoniously with Raccoons, please keep your trash cans secured and patch up any holes into your home. This will ensure that they are not attracted to your home and won’t have the ability to get into your attic to make a nest for their babies. If you have questions regarding native NJ wildlife, please call our Wildlife Hospital at 856-983-3329 ext. 107. #wildlifewednesday #cedarrun #njwildlife #nonprofit #wildliferehabilitation

8 interesting and useful projects to follow ! We believe that such an approach is a key to understanding biodiversity decrease and human impact. As simultaneously a positive outcome is aiming at minimizing our impact upon those endangered species we might have to recommend better public attention to those important matters either well documented such as FMD in wild ungulates in South Africa or TB, YF respectively in lions and Brazilian monkeys or in key areas of climate change withe turtle fertility or dolphin diseases. Microbiology is definitely part of biodiversity ; its study in wild animals one of the bases of one health concept.
Eight new studies are now underway to help elephants, dolphins, sea turtles, lions, tigers, bears and other animals, thanks to the generous support of our donors. The newly funded studies address critical health challenges these animals face, and their impact could resonate for decades — or even generations — to come.

We've had an influx of otter cubs over the past three weeks and with the heavy rain, we wanted to remind people what to do if you unfortunately come across a cub. 🦦 If you find a cub that you think has been abandoned please call us for advice. Please do not touch the otter prior to getting advice from us, as very often the mother will leave them for several hours before returning. 🦦 Our experienced team will then offer advice based on the information given. We will then advise if the animal needs to be moved. 🦦 If you have found an otter, it is time-critical to get the animal to the best possible place for care. The first few hours can make the difference of life or death to these vulnerable mammals. Please call the contact below – advice will then be given over the phone after asking a few basic questions about the specific animal and scenario. 🦦 Once we have spoken to you and have decided that the cub needs rescuing then we will make arrangements for the otter to be collected from you. We have contacts around the UK, they work with us in rescuing otter cubs, including RSPCA centres, experienced wildlife rehabilitaters and vets. 🦦 Please remember that otters do NOT make good pets and require very specialist care. They are protected under the law and must be taken to a reputable rescue centre. 🦦 All of our orphaned cubs are released, fully fit, back into the wild after a year-long rehabilitation program. By contacting us and following our advice you will have played a vital role in this process for which we will be ever-grateful! 🦦 Who to contact - Dave Webb (UKWOT founder) 01769 580621 07866462820 Colin Seddon (Director Of Otter Welfare And Rehabilitation) 07759 809667 Together we can give orphaned otter cubs a chance of survival. 💕 #wildlifeconservation #wildanimals #wildliferescue #otterrescue #otterconservation

There are huge threats facing wildlife due to the use of snaring. Snares are often used to capture wild civets for their involvement in the coffee industry, but there is often by-catch to these snares. So, what does this mean? Not only are civets being harmed by the implemented snares, but there are other animals being hurt too! This damage is not limited to civets! You can find more helpful advice and free resources on how to protect civets when travelling by visiting our website: https://lnkd.in/eU8suiTa #civet #snaring #animalcharity #animalwelfare #animallover #conservation #boycottsnaring #civetcoffee #RaretoReckless
