Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the #Sustainability in Packaging Europe conference, one of the leading events in the industry, with over 600 passionate professionals. It was an exciting few days filled with insightful discussions on the future of sustainable packaging. #SustPackEurope A major focus was the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR), which will have significant implications across the EU. Despite several uncertainties around the regulation, Frederic Dreux from Unilever pointed out, "there's a cost of not acting." Early movers won’t just avoid risks—they'll be the first to capture the growing market demand for sustainable packaging solutions 🌊 . The path ahead presents immense opportunities for transformative change and innovative solutions ♻💡Desiree Nyulas

Paving the way for a circular future: WEPA Bridgend hosts WRAP for sustainable innovation 🌍 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Costa Athanatos from Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to our WEPA site in Bridgend. WRAP is doing incredible work, working with the Welsh Government and local manufacturers to drive forward sustainability and climate action. It's inspiring to see how closely our values align - we both believe that the only way forward is to create a circular system where sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. During the visit, we took Costa on a tour in our Bridgend mill, where we're already incorporating recycled fibres into our tissue paper. It was great to show how these materials are making a real difference in the move towards more sustainable products. We had some very insightful discussions with our WEPA UK LIMITED team, about how we can build on these efforts and how WRAP's expertise can help us improve our practices even further. As WEPA we are fully committed to ambitious sustainability goals, that our sales products contain at least 60% recycled and alternative fibers by 2030. Achieving this requires working #together with strong partners, and our work with WRAP is a significant step forward. Together, we are not just talking about sustainability - we are actively shaping a future where responsible production meets consumer needs while protecting the environment. This visit reflects our ongoing efforts to lead the consumer sector with responsible, evidence-based solutions. By embracing a circular economy, we're ensuring that our products not only meet the highest standards of hygiene and well-being, but also contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world. #WeareWEPA #Togetherforabetterlife #Sustainability

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 ♻️🤝🏻 Jokey Group and REMONDIS-Gruppe are working together to create a closed-loop system for the food industry. The aim is to produce packaging with approvals from European and US authorities from recycled polypropylene. The project follows a long tradition: Jokey produced the first recyclate bucket in cooperation with Remondis back in 1991. With this cooperation, the closed-loop system for food packaging is now to be continuously expanded. #Remondis coordinates the collection, return and sorting of food packaging. Recyclates are then obtained in a mechanical recycling process, which in turn are used by Jokey to produce new packaging. “In order to be able to produce new food packaging from these recyclates in the future, we have to ensure a closed material cycle that consists exclusively of food packaging,” explains Jens Stadter, CEO of the Jokey Group. Ralf Mandelatz, Managing Director of REMONDIS Recycling, adds: “We are delighted that Jokey wants to work with us to further develop the technology of mechanical recycling in the area of contact-sensitive #packaging. Remondis is contributing its findings from other projects, which are about using technical progress in the sense of a circular economy to close material cycles with as few #emissions as possible.” #circulareconomy #foodpackaging #recycling #jokeygroup #remondisrecycling #packagingindustry #verpackungsindustrie #greeneconomy

‘Whilst the concept is simple, it’s complex and ambitious’ Read Phantm’s lastest blog about APCO’s Eco Modualtion Scheme, what you might want to do to prepare and why reduction and simplification has to be the focus!
You're going to start hearing a lot more about eco-modulation over the next few years. Especially now that eco-modulated fees are a key component of APCO's recently published 2030 Strategic Plan. The concept is simple: The easier your packaging is to recover and recycle, the lower the fee. The scheme focuses on materials Placed on Market (POM), and incentivises APCO members to measure and improve to reduce their fees. While the concept is simple, the scheme is both complex and ambitious. And it is also a step in the right direction for more sustainable packaging in Australia. APCO's Eco-modulated fees are coming by FY27, so there is no time to waste! How to prepare: 1. Start capturing, tracking and understanding the materials you use. This takes time, so we suggest starting now 2. Once you know what you have, work out how to simplify, simplify, reduce 3. Get started! Our experience working with major brands is often the materials data is not linked to the sales data To brush up and take a deep dive into this significant development, check out this explainer from our Head of Strategy, Edward Whitehead: https://lnkd.in/g_WifMJY It's time to get regulation ready!
