LA SEND Adviser & Inspector/AT trainer/Art Advocate/Anti-racist schools coach/ND Champion. Former advisory teacher (SEND/SLCN) and Secondary Special Headteacher (Autism).NPQH, MAEd, NASENco, PGCE. Artist:Art is for life!
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of moderating a panel discussion at Bett Global on supporting children with EBSA ( emotionally based school avoidance). I just heard that there were 160 people in the audience. While I'm happy that so many people chose to attend our discussion, I'm also saddened that educators, parents and their children/young people are not getting the support they need. As I get ready to get my own children ready to go back to school after the half-term break, I'm reflecting on my own family's experience around this in the past. At the same time, I'm thinking of all the parents/carers who are struggling with this and the educators who are actively trying to support them. Last year, I recorded a webinar for The National College on managing transitions, not just at the start of the school year or from primary to secondary, but also throughout the school year and the school day. If you're preparing to go back after the half-term break, it might be worth a watch. I hope you find it useful. There is also this guide from THE ANNA FREUD CENTRE https://lnkd.in/e7n5RV2j And a great blog from a headteacher who experienced this as a parent with his own child. https://lnkd.in/eajZ2y92 We really need to find a different way because what we're doing now is just not working. https://lnkd.in/ebkGikMD #EBSA #transitions #transitionsuccess #education #educationaltransformation #educationforall #relationshipsmatter #traumainformed

💙 July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and highlights the unique challenges minority communities may encounter in navigating mental health care. Despite the universal nature of mental health challenges, cultural stigmas and systemic obstacles often deter individuals from seeking support. This month, let's review the concepts of cultural humility versus cultural competence, and reflect on what we can do to better serve these minority communities. Share this post to spread the word or share your thoughts: What changes do you hope to see in mental health support for minority communities? #MentalHealthforall #MinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthMatters #Empowerment #Community Sources: Khan, S.
