We had such a great time! Thank you to the Penn State College of the Liberal Arts alumni and employers who volunteered their time to meet with students at our tent! 🙌 👏
Interesting read and some very good points. There is a high need for more practical career advising in higher education institutions. Graduates need skills to be prepared for the workforce, not just head knowledge on a certain topic.
No amount of online research can replicate the experience of stepping onto a college campus. That’s why Breakthrough Atlanta facilitates campus visits throughout the year for our program’s high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Not only do students learn about courses of study and future career opportunities, but they also learn about personal development and social engagement opportunities like extracurricular sports and activities and Greek letter organizations.

Thought this article was interesting! Some of us are alumni of specific schools, having love for schools we graduated from, some are currently doing campus visits, having a list of schools they would love to attend and parents, likely have a list of schools you'd love your kids to show interest in. Even though we all have our own unique lists of schools across the US that we love, this article is promoting attending college in the South for the warm weather, warmer welcome and career opportunities after graduation. 🎓 Just food for thought!

Having worked with Cypress College, the University of the Fraser Valley, and Vanier College for many years, I have gained a clear perspective on the education industry.
While many recruiters favour public institutions over private colleges, those of us recruiting for both types of institutions understand that the choice between them is not as critical as it might seem. Universities, like the University of the Fraser Valley, offer degree programs, whereas private career colleges, such as Cypress College in Medicine Hat, focus on skill development and early job placement through practical training.
Public colleges, like Vanier College, are equally noteworthy. With their smaller class sizes and dynamic two-year ACS programs with co-op options, they provide valuable education and opportunities.
Ultimately, the decision should be based on a student’s career goals rather than social media trends. It is essential to choose a program that aligns with one's professional aspirations rather than being influenced by the latest buzz on Instagram or TikTok.
From Research to Roll Tide!
Being a graduate student at The University of Alabama Graduate School is a journey filled with passion, dedication, and the vibrant spirit of the Crimson Tide! Roll Tide! Roll Tide!!
Our days are steeped in research, where curiosity meets discovery, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. It’s about being part of a legacy where every study, every experiment, and every paper contributes to a world of progress.
Yes, the campus is vast, and our ambitions are even vaster! We navigate through the expansive #UA campus with GPS in hand, because every building is a new adventure, every lab a new challenge.
The library can feel like a second home, where books and journals consume our downtime and accompany our meals. But don’t be fooled, this is where dreams are crafted, where the next breakthroughs in academia are quietly brewing in the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.
And while our schedules are packed, we still find those precious moments to connect with the heartbeat of #ua - the undergrads, the football chants, and of course, our furry little friends, the squirrels! They’re a reminder of the joy and whimsy that can be found even in the most rigorous academic pursuits.
I come from Nigeria, a land rich in culture and spirit, and I have found a second home here in Alabama, amidst a community as diverse as it is welcoming. Alabama isn’t just a place ‘where legends are made’; it’s a place where every student—no matter where they come from—can feel at home.
We are the graduate students of #UA, crafting our own legends, one discovery, one friendship, and one ‘Roll Tide!’ at a time. This isn’t just a university; it’s a place where our tales unfold, and where every day we’re proud to say: This is WHERE LEGENDS ARE MADE!

🌟 Please join us in welcoming Jasmyn Robinson, M.Ed. to JCU! 🌟
Jasmyn is originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but came to Ohio in 2017 to go to Kent State University. She received her Bachelor's degree in psychology in 2021, making her the first in her family to obtain a degree. After a year off of school working as a registered behavioral technician, Jasmyn decided it was time to go back to get her Masters degree.
She was accepted into the Kent State Higher Education and Administration program in 2022 and started as a Graduate Assistant in the Career Exploration and Development office, where she had the opportunity to provide career advising and teach a course called Career Navigation. Her second year in the program, she had another opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant for Student Success Programs. Jasmyn is grateful for all the experiences she had at Kent State, as well as all the wonderful people who have helped her along the way. She believes all her experiences have led her here to JCU, and she is thrilled to be here!
Jasmyn's new role at JCU is as an Academic Success Advisor for the Boler College of Business. She is really looking forward to working with the first- and second-year students and helping them feel comfortable and confident in their educational journey here at JCU. Being her first week, she still has a lot to learn, but everyone has been so welcoming and helpful that it makes her excited to see what is in store for her career here at John Carroll University!

I remember the first informational session I gave as an Admissions Officer at Brown University. 🐻
My favorite part was ✨ making it my own ✨ as I saw coworkers do with their info sessions while shadowing them. We were not scripted and could shape the experience how we saw fit.
During the Q&A, I remember a student asking “What advice would you give to a student interested in attending Brown?”
Here’s how I responded pretty much every time the question was posed:
𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑔𝑒 𝑎𝑑𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑏𝑒 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑧𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑡 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠. 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑜 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑎 𝑚𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑜𝑛 ✨ 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 ✨ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝑡 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒. While my career has taken a winding path 🌎 this sentiment has always remained true. 🌟
