Rep. John Joyce and deputy chief of staff Matt Tucker recently visited the Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing Simulation Lab at the Penn State Altoona Campus. It was an exciting opportunity to showcase the state-of-the-art simulation technology and the experiences that empower Penn State health care learners to excel. Check out these highlights from their visit:

200 hours... That's how much time the College of Health and Science, University of Lincoln saved on staff time during the recent assessment of their second-year nursing students. But how? By using OMS. The team at Lincoln looked to alternative teaching methods to engage their students and optimize their assessment processes. By leveraging OMS, they were not only able to “drastically reduce staff workload” but also saw "an overall improvement in student results, when compared to recent years." That's a win-win in our books. Keep your eyes peeled for the full case study coming soon! #HealthcareSimulation

What is my "why"? It's this! Doing what we can to move the needle, increase utilization of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice, lay the foundations for Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation, and share our love of #healthcaresimulation. Another great day for SIMPL Simulation, LLC!
"Thank you for a great meeting today. Meeting with you monthly for mentoring has given me so much additional support and confidence, and it has broadened my prospective of simulation. With so many competing demands, the schedule and structure of our meetings help keep simulation goals a priority. See you in September". When you get to mentor someone as motivated as Sandra Mote at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Solomont School of Nursing, you know that the future of #healthcaresimulation is in good hands. Thanks for all of the hard work, Sandy! See you in September 😁

Each year our SPs and new hires must pass a series of workshops to make sure they are up to date with their knowledge of correct physical exam elements and communication/feedback with learners. "We base the workshops on Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking," said Karen Schroedle, BA, CHSE, Standardized Patient Trainer/Supervisor. "For some of the exam systems, we go a little bit further based on what the educators have requested. Our goal is to make sure every learner who goes through events with our Sim Center SP Program has the same experience because our SPs are consistent." There's also a communication workshop that includes how to give formative, verbal and written feedback, as well as how to receive feedback. If any SPs choose not to take these workshops or don't meet expectations, they are not booked to participate in any formative or summative evaluations that year. "The return on investment in running our program this way has been a much better experience for the learners who participate in our program," added Schroedle. "We've been able to calibrate to have a pretty significant increase in inter rater reliability, and so it has proven to meet the goals and expectations that we set when developing these workshops." The benefits of integrating virtual simulation into the curriculum have been extensively discussed in various papers. But what about facilitation and debriefing? Nursing students from the University of South-Eastern Norway had the opportunity to deliberately perform incorrect actions or make wrong decisions to learn from them, all thanks to Virtual Patient Simulation. Check out Prof. Heyn's presentation at the Body Interact community event. 👇 https://hubs.ly/Q02KYfNV0 #debriefing #virtualpatients #simulation #communityevent #BIcommunity #bodyinteract

MIT MBA l Harvard MPH l CNO at NPHub, I help NP programs optimize student clinical placements I 40 under 40 Honoree-Seattle
🌟 Spotlight on Dr. Bridgette M. (Brawner) Rice, PhD, MDiv, APRN, FAAN🌟 Dr. Rice exemplifies leadership and resilience as a first-generation college student who rose to become an influential educator and healthcare leader. From starting out in the NICU to becoming a PhD, postdoc, and faculty at UPenn before transitioning to her current role at Villanova, Dr. Rice has continually broken barriers and paved the way for others. Her journey highlights not only her deep commitment to mental health and child-family therapy but also her passion for equity and justice. Dr. Rice now collaborates with faculty, students, and leaders to foster innovative research, support clinical placement, and develop groundbreaking healthcare solutions. Her story is a powerful reminder of why nurse practitioners (NPs) are at the forefront of healthcare today. As Dr. Rice aptly put it: "Nurse practitioners are critical to the future of healthcare in every sector—physical health, behavioral health—and must operate at their full practice authority. We need to support nursing programs in providing the education and clinical opportunities they require." Her words only magnified our "why" in NPHub and NPHire 👏 Dr. Rice's focus on innovation and equity is why NPs will continue to drive the future of healthcare forward. Let’s celebrate her leadership and the trailblazing work she’s doing! #NursePractitioners #HealthcareInnovation #EquityInHealthcare #NursingLeadership #Villanova #HealthcareTransformation
