Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. This World Suicide Prevention Day the theme is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" with the call to action "Start the Conversation" which aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Use these tools and resources from ACEP to help start those conversations and raise awareness in the ED.

National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate health improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. This observance reinforces the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover. There are millions of Americans whose lives have been transformed through recovery. Since these successes often go unnoticed by the broader population, Recovery Month provides a vehicle for everyone to celebrate these accomplishments. Each September, tens of thousands of prevention, treatment, and recovery programs and facilities around the country celebrate Recovery Month. They speak about strides made by those in recovery and share their success stories with their neighbors, friends, and colleagues. In doing so, everyone helps to increase awareness and foster a greater understanding about mental and substance use disorders. https://lnkd.in/g4vknnkh

World Suicide Prvention Day ✨Changing the narrative✨ Suicide remains a critical global issue, affecting individuals and communities worldwide. In an effort to address this issue and encourage positive change, IASP is pleased to announce the new theme for World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) 2024-2026 as “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”. World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on the 10th of September to draw attention to this important public health issue globally and to disseminate the message that suicides are preventable. Established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the day aims to focus attention on the issue, reduce stigma and raise awareness amongst organisations, government, and the public, giving the singular message that suicides are preventable. #wspd #anxiety #depression #debt #suicide #counselling

With over 6000 suicides in the UK last year, 1 in 5 people having suicidal thoughts, and 1 in 15 people attempting suicide, suicide can affect us all. That’s why at Lundbeck we believe that by raising awareness, reducing the stigma and encouraging conversations about suicide we can all play a part in helping to reducing this number. Join us today on #WorldSuicidePreventionDay and #StartTheConversation. For additional information on supporting friends, family or colleagues impacted by depression, a common risk factor for suicide, visit lifeonmyterms.co.uk – a Lundbeck website. #LifeOnMyTerms #MentalHealth #WSPD2024 UK-NOTPR-2033 | August 2024

September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time that holds deep significance for me personally and for the entire Charlie Health community. I carry the experiences of each of our clients—more than half of whom have acted on suicidal thoughts—with me today, throughout this month, and every day. Despite advancements in mental healthcare, those facing the most acute challenges continue to experience significant gaps in both support and treatment. We need to show up for one another, have difficult conversations, and learn how to offer the right words. Just as importantly, we must ensure that accessible and effective treatment options are available for those struggling the most, as these remain far too scarce. What can you do? A Crucial Conversation: Eating Disorders and Suicide Risk As we mark Suicide Prevention Month, I find it imperative to reflect on an statistic that deeply impacts our practice and the lives of many we serve. The high mortality rates associated with eating disorders are further compounded by a significantly increased risk of suicide. This reality emphasizes the importance of the work we do at Nourished Minds and the profound need for specialized mental health care. In our community of healthcare providers, it’s vital that we discuss not just the clinical aspects but also the emotional toll of supporting individuals at such critical points in their lives. Each day, we strive to create a space where healing is not just possible but nurtured with compassion and understanding. Let’s use this month to renew our commitment to serious, effective advocacy and care for those facing these hidden battles. The work we do isn’t just a profession—it’s a crucial lifeline. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out, engage in this vital conversation, and continue to support one another in our collective mission to save lives and foster healing. #SuicidePrevention #EatingDisorderAwareness #MentalHealthCare #ProfessionalSupport

Trigger warning: post about suicide awareness September is suicide awareness month. 1 in 4 women with ADHD make an attempt on life. Let’s just let that hang there. Not thought about committing suicide, have tried to. And actually that figure will be larger due to the attempts not always being tracked properly. Those of us with Autism are 9x more likely to die by suicide. I have personal experience of suicide, both myself and a family member. I will be supporting Jo Lambert and #holdthehope with all my might. It’s such an important project. I will be attending the Friday 20th September in SW London and invite my friends and tribe here to join us. What do you think? Are you available and interested? My journey to the event involves travelling through central London, so happy to arrange a pick up point for anyone travelling in who gets overstimulated by trains etc and I’ll shout us a coffee or the like after (not mandatory). Please RSVP to hello@holdthehope.co.uk if you would like to join us. We’d love to see you 💜 #suicideawareness #adhd #autism #auadhd #holdthehope
