Friday reflection question: Where can I go to be inspired? This week was the inaugural PIMFA - Personal Investment Management & Financial Advice Association Women's Symposium in London. An incredible event with over 350 attendees from across the wealth management sector and inspiration on tap. I hosted a panel of 3 pioneers in financial services who have paved and continue to pave the way for women in this sector. Pippa Dale, Stacey Parsons and Janet Stevens have created a series of firsts. Just to name 2 examples, Janet was the first female equities trader at the London Stock Exchange in 1981 and Pippa and Stacey, while holding senior corporate roles, were integral to celebrating 50 years of London Stock Exchange Women Members in 2023. What struck me is that these women have all carved their own path, boldly (and with a lot of grit) AND brought people with them. Their stories showed solidarity for inclusion, diversity and supporting others. Great role models for finding your people, genuine and outcome-orientated networking as well as credible commercial success in their fields of expertise. Thank you for making me feel welcome in this group and generously sharing your experience, thoughts and advice. Thank you PIMFA for the invitation and an excellent event - truly inspiring. . . . The Friday reflection questions are an opportunity for us to be curious about our leadership impact over the last week and boost our creativity for the week ahead. It’s pausing and being intentional about how we’re choosing to think, act and behave. It’s about experimenting, thinking differently and evolving our leadership. Dao Foods' Tao Zhang will be speaking this Thursday at the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) as part of a panel discussion on "Impact Investing in Asia – The Investors' View." As Asia’s wealth increases, commensurate interest is growing in various types of private social investments, including impact investing. Since many wealth advisors have historically been focused on building capital, they understandably have less familiarity with impact investing. The good news is both the families and principals themselves and their family office teams have great interest in remedying this shortfall. A recent survey among ultra-high-net-worth families in Greater China revealed that 98% are eager to explore philanthropy and impact investing. Tao will be joined on the panel by Chang Sun with TPG and Shuyin Tang with Beacon Fund, with @Dr. Ruth Shapiro with the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) moderating the discussion.
