Certified Energy Manager for Commercial & Industrial Firms | Energy Audits | Procurement | Benchmarking | Sustainability
Eaton, an intelligent power management company, celebrated the launch of a new clean energy microgrid in Puerto Rico April 2. Located at the company’s manufacturing facility in Arecibo, the microgrid is the largest of its kind in Puerto Rico, according to a statement from the company. The microgrid was developed in partnership with Enel North America, which built, owns and operates the system for Eaton under an energy-as-a-service agreement. It includes 5 MW of solar and approximately 1.1 MW of battery storage. It will also utilize existing on-site generators. Eaton manufactures residential, commercial and industrial circuit breakers at the Arecibo plant. The system is expected to generate nearly 10 GWh of renewable energy each year, more than half the facility’s energy needs. As a result, the Arecibo plant’s emissions will be cut by 7,100 metric tons. Eaton is targeting a 50% reduction of its companywide carbon emissions by 2030. Along with energy efficiency measures implemented by Eaton and the integration of the company’s own intelligent power management technologies, it is expected that the microgrid will reduce the plant’s energy consumption by nearly 45% and its costs by nearly 20%. Designed to withstand Category 5 wind speeds in excess of 157 miles per hour, the microgrid can deliver renewable energy to the grid, increasing its resilience. To further reduce the company’s emissions and bolster the resilience of Puerto Rico’s grid, Eaton and Enel North America are in the early stages of construction on a similar microgrid at Eaton’s Las Piedras manufacturing facility. 🛠️🔋⚡Ever wondered what goes into the construction of a utility-scale battery system? Here's a project update from the Kwinana Battery Energy Storage System Stage 2 (KBESS2) - which when complete will be WA's largest grid-connected battery; providing 200 megawatts of power with 800MW hours of energy storage. It will be capable of powering 370,000 average WA homes for approximately four hours. In a major milestone announced by our client Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) last month, the battery systems are now in place; leading to the installation of 72 inverters, as construction continues. This facility will be four times the size of KBESS1, itself a landmark project which Genus was pleased to deliver under an EPC contract; and which was commissioned in mid-2023. We're proud to be playing a key part in Australia's continuing energy transition. Connecting the future. Together. #energystorage #energytransition #connectingthefuture

Industry experts from ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) detail the vital role of gas turbines in a sustainable energy landscape: "There is a trend toward fewer operating hours for gas turbines—from 8,000 hours per year to around 1,000–and moving from 2/3 shutdowns per year to per day. This comes with the requirement from customers for more flexible operations such as part-load conditions and faster ramp rates. This increased operational stress can affect engine life and maintenance schedules, which must be considered in the design phase and throughout the equipment's lifetime" More starts means a faster rate of wear on igniter tips; with Chentronics predictive tip wear diagnostic features, operators and maintenance planners can make data based decisions on maintenance, reducing the risk of missed starts. We understand the industry's shift towards fuel flexibility and offer solutions compatible with a shift towards more gas turbine starts. Our technology ensures the safe and reliable operation of these critical systems. https://lnkd.in/eQQmm7nV
