It has been a while since my last post. I want to bring up a disturbing issue that is increasing throughout the US. The larger hotels are setting up in their contracts the provision that one must use their in-house AV company for all breakouts... You can bring your own AV for the general session but not for the breakouts. There is no benefit that I see to the meeting planner or their client, it is only a way for the property to increase their revenue while making it more difficult and more costly for the client. They can charge their exorbitant prices, and you have no recourse! For those groups who plan to utilize the in-house audio-visual team this is of no concern to you. However, those groups who use the same AV company for their meetings and events are going to be continually hampered by this recent strong-arm tactic. It's just another way the hotels are taking away your rights as a customer of that hotel. I would suggest that in your required concessions you make use of your AV company throughout their facility or find a facility that will allow this stipulation. Tuesday Tips: 📣 📣 When siting hotel venues for your meetings.. here are a few things to consider: * Get the proposal in hand while onsite to go over any specific needs and questions on the spot. * If your seating style for the main room or breakout is "unique or non traditional", ask for it to be set up while onsite (depending on availability) * Stay overnight... this allows you to understand the area at night, rush hour, etc. and check out what's in the area that could be used for an offsite experience * If your meetings requires catering onsite, ask for tastings, be it lunch, breakfast or a snack, and see what the back of the house looks like :) If you do not have a Partner to assist you with your conferences, meetings, and offsites .
