💧💧 Medical Clean rooms Humidity compliance without missing a beat Clean rooms including Mass Spectrometry rooms, and Magnetic resonance imagery (MRI) rooms have stringent humidity specifications set by respective medical machine suppliers.   Traditionally, these specifications are met using conventional air conditioning systems, which often struggle with humidity control, particularly during part-load times.   🏥 In 2014 a prominent Sydney Children's Medical Research Institute faced this challenge. With Cleanrooms and Mass spectrometry machines scattered across its 8-storey building, the institute required large quantities of ventilation air, alongside precise temperature and humidity control (20-22°C and 50% +/-5%RH,), ensuring compliance with examination room specifications.   🌬️ Austral Air Conditioning came to the rescue with a DST Model EFA152 (1.5m desiccant rotor) Dehumidifier.  This provided controlled OA dewpoint for the last 10 years without missing a beat with Australair and DST service.  The ultra-efficient system used onboard compressor waste heat and hot water for regeneration to control dewpoint precisely, with the addition of an evaporative Humidifier for winter with preheated OA. Last paper from my PhD research (almost 8 months after the defence and at a different stage of my professional life, but fair enough). Here we demonstrate the pervasive presence of #microplastics down to 1 µm in the #indoorair of four settings located in Aalborg (Denmark). By employing #Ramanmicrospectroscopy to analyse our air samples, we got far higher concentrations compared to previous studies. Why? Because they didn't consider the particulate down to 1 µm, which is a challenging analyte. Overall, we might introduce in our bodies 3415 MPs/day via breathing (sounds a big number, doesn't it?). The exact amount in each setting depended on the level and type of human activity carried out, plus the inherent structural characteristics of the location (extension, active ventilation systems, windows, etc.). In light of these results, we repeated the experiments with a commercial surgical #facemask, to see whether it could filter out the #airbornemicroplastics. Yes, it could...but only the larger ones. The smaller ones (1 - 5 µm) could still penetrate the facemask's fabric, which shows how difficult it is to effectively raise defenses against this #pollutant. Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/duuZU8zv
