It's Performance Review time which also means Talent Review season. My favorite insight in Marc's article below is "every true high potential is also a high performer, very few high performers have high potential." Also check out this podcast on talent reviews that encourage them to be action oriented and development focused. https://lnkd.in/gw33Nc9d #talentmanagement #performancereviews #talentreviews #potential #performance #performancemanagement

Great article from Marc sharing best practices for effective talent reviews. Reinforcing that individual ambition is core to the high potential definition, ensuring that succession plans are “realistic, not optimistic,” and transparency with individuals are a few keys to success. #successionplanning

Head of Culture, Talent and Learning | Cultural Transformation | Learning & Organisational Development | Leadership Development | Senior Leader
Do you want to embed Talent Reviews in your organisations? The kind that actually gets talent results rather than be an intellectual discussion around which box to put people into? In my experience, it requires a lot of education of leaders who are part of the process in order for it to be effective. There is a general list of objections and blind spots that you can expect from your leaders. Marc Effron wrote this brilliant article directed at your leaders, providing answers to their most common questions and explaining the concept of a talent review with practical examples that resonate from their point of view. It's a great resource and short-cut to familiarising your leaders with the concept and helping THEM to get what THEY need out of the process. Some messages that really stood out for me were: - Companies change faster than people do - a leader who was brilliant for the role up to now may not be right for the future, so what do you need in your future leader? - It's not about the model - resist the urge to argue or redesign the talent framework - what matters is the conversation and the action taken out of it, the framework is just a tool to help you do it. - Your successors should be your high potentials. Use the Talent Review as a planning tool/input for succession. - Assessments are great if they can provide additional data to what you already know about the person. It's your job as a manager to know a person's ambitions, their performance on the job, their ability to synthesize information and apply it effectively etc.
