😀 Learning from People, Spaces, and Cultures: A Path to Better Design Throughout my one-year journey in the United Kingdom, I’ve come to realize that learning often happens in the most unexpected ways. During my part-time role at Piccolino Manchester, I wasn’t just learning how to serve customers—I was absorbing life lessons that have shaped my growth both personally and professionally. Working in such a diverse environment allowed me to learn Italian, but more importantly, it taught me how to communicate across cultural boundaries, build connections, and appreciate different perspectives. I developed the ability to contribute within a team while still maintaining my individuality and making a meaningful impact. This experience has had a direct influence on my architectural journey. Architecture, after all, is not just about designing buildings—it’s about understanding how people interact with spaces, how environments shape behaviour, and how to create places that foster individuality and community. 📌 In both architecture and life, success comes from a thoughtful balance of standing out, building connections, and integrating diverse perspectives. #Architecture #Design #CulturalUnderstanding #PersonalGrowth #LifelongLearning #BuildingConnections

This year we celebrate HPA Design Group’s 25th Anniversary! As a tribute to this milestone, get to know more about some team members whose contributions we celebrate every day. Meet Kayla Pinard, Interior Designer: What was the most memorable/notable experience you’ve had working with HPAD? Every year, all HPAD employees nation-wide join at our company training seminar “BOND”. It’s always a great time to meet with people from the other offices and get to know everyone a little better. When were you most proud to work for HPAD? I am most proud of HPAD’s leadership over the years. It’s been a pleasure to see our company grow not only in numbers but also in leadership. They have done an incredible job at offering tools for success to their employees, for example mentorship/leadership courses. It is important for a company to cultivate, develop, and maintain a strong positive culture for a workplace to thrive and in my opinion, HPAD has succeeded at it. What was your favorite project you’ve worked on and why? Framework Group’s 400 Beach in Daytona, Florida has been one of my favorite projects to work on so far. On this unique next-level apartment development, I was able to assist when pulling finishes and creating high-level, memorable design concepts. Really excited to see it come to fruition. What is your favorite song/podcast you like to listen to while working? Depends on the day, but I typically listen to alternative indie or alternative rock playlists. What do you hope or envision for HPAD in the next 25 years? I hope that HPAD continues to work hard and grows into the best company we can be. I think it’s important to go the extra mile providing our clients with the attention and detail in their projects that they deserve. #employeeappreciation #teamappreciation #interiordesignfirm #employeespotlight #25thanniversary

It was great to be invited by Design Insider to introduce Phoenix Wharf | Certified B Corp and share our approach to Sensory Design. As a naturally inquisitive team, we are passionate about improving human experiences and designing inclusive environments. You can read how we've been working with Self Agency, a neurodiversity consultancy, as well as a local university to improve the connection between people and spaces. There are plenty of useful tips in the full interview: https://lnkd.in/eWsC8fhh #sensorydesign #substancewithsoul #campusdesign #neurodiversity #interiordesign https://lnkd.in/exK-V7P2

In branding spaces, timelines are key for celebrating history, as seen with Johnson & Johnson's impressive 125+ year journey. Yet, traditional timelines face challenges: they can quickly become dated, the last entry serving as a nagging reminder to update. There also is the issue of it becoming a ever expanding treatment, which isn't practical, especially in a limited space. Our solution was to design a modular, dimensional timeline adaptable to any space. By varying panel thickness (.25" represents 25 years), we create a layered history where recent events are at the forefront and past events recede. This dynamic design ensures the timeline remains fresh and relevant, easily updated without becoming cumbersome. 🎓 **Finally! The Last Dance!** A significant chapter of my journey has come to a close. Just a few days ago, I successfully defended my final undergraduate project, an immersive experience. i designed a #GROCERYSTORE for a mass housing project completed in the previous semester. From the outset, my vision was to create a design inspired by nature, translating it into a cutting-edge entity. The journey unfolded through a deliberate process: 1. **Sun-Inspired Design:** Drawing inspiration from the sun and its life-giving rays, each representing diverse phenomena, laid the foundation for the floor plan's basic shape and the arrangement of interior spaces. 2. **Strategic Separation:** By isolating key rays crucial to the grocery store, I shaped not only the floor plan but also the interior space arrangement. 3. **Sustainability Integration:** I developed the design, incorporating components ensuring sustainable and efficient store operations without heavy reliance on artificial sources. In subsequent posts, I'll delve into the strategies implemented. As I wrap up my undergraduate studies, I'm excited about the opportunities the next stage holds. A heartfelt thank you to family, friends, and colleagues who made this journey worthwhile. The lessons learned along the way will undoubtedly prove valuable in the industry. 🥂 **Cheers to the Better Days Ahead!** Stay tuned as I share insights and lessons learnt, on this platform. #DesignJourney #UndergraduateLife #GroceryStoreDesign #SunInspired #SustainabilityInDesign #NewBeginnings #ThankfulJourney #FutureDesigns #NextChapter
