Hitting committed dates is one of the top things that causes stress for PMs & Engineers in a product team. In this video, I share a simple & effective technique I learned at Stripe for dealing with the inherent imprecision of scoping, estimates, and launch dates: https://lnkd.in/gFs9FZPG

Valuable insight from Shreyas Doshi on managing product launch expectations with two key dates: - 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: an aggressive timeline, used internally by Product and Engineering teams to push progress. - 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: a more conservative timeline, shared with Sales and GTM teams to ensure readiness. Whether you choose to work with one or two dates, it’s crucial that your Sales and GTM teams are always in the loop. This allows them to anticipate any delays and adjust their strategies in a timely manner, ensuring a smooth and successful launch. #Launches #GTM #PM #ProductManagement

Deadlines. Milestones. Launch Dates. For many Product Managers, these words invoke stress, fear and anxiety. Why? We are making commitments that other teams, mostly engineering and PMO, will need to deliver on. We are making commitments that other stakeholders will depend on to drive growth, partner and support timelines. What happens if you miss? Like many things in the PM world, there is no single answer for how to ensure timely deliveries 100% of the time. In my experience, the best place to start is with stakeholder communication. Check out this quick video from Shreyas Doshi with some great ideas on how to improve communication between Product and Engineering to help manage expectations and to ship features on time.

This is the essence of agility... ... having the courage to make improvements. Improvements require change, and change is scary. While I agree with this post 100%, there is one key ingredient you need to add for success. 🌟 LEARN! Starting over doesn't mean you have to go back to scratch. It means thinking critically about what you have... ... keep what works ... fix what doesn't ... have the courage to go back to the beginning if that's what it takes. As you build towards your goals, you learn more about your goals. Your vision becomes more clear. Sometimes this clarity reveals that you're off course... ... So make a correction. Or it reveals that your priorities have changed... ... So start something new. If you're always learning, you never truly start over because YOU have changed. You carry with you all your new skills and improved understanding.

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. It's never too late to be what you might have been!

Addressing product debt requires a vigilant and proactive approach. It's not just about identifying what's obsolete or underperforming; it's about understanding the hidden cost of maintaining these elements and the toll they take on your team's velocity and morale. The questions you mentioned - about the necessity of a screen/page or the usage of a feature - are the starting points in uncovering this debt. Yet, the journey doesn't end there. Engaging in candid conversations with product leadership is crucial. It's about painting a clear picture of the trade-offs involved in maintaining versus retiring these product components. Indeed, paying down product debt can be uncomfortable, especially when it involves communicating with customers or retracting features they're accustomed to. However, this discomfort is a necessary part of the process, fostering a product ecosystem that's lean, focused, and most importantly, valuable to your customers.

9.58 seconds. That’s how fast Usain Bolt ran 100 meters in 2009, earning him the title “The Fastest Man in the World.” While you might not win gold in the Olympic games, you can win market gold for adopting a sprinter’s mindset in your product validation process. How? Take a page from our Rapid Product Validation playbook, skip the lengthy discovery cycle and go straight to prototyping. In other words, place your idea in the starting blocks and learn almost immediately if people like it. Read the full blog and access our RPV workbook. https://bit.ly/3TQIVeF
