The harsh reality. Children especially children with medical complexities are not safe in the U.S. As a parent and clinician this ignites a fire in my belly daily through Perfecting Peds to create the solution, to solve this problem. In the community setting, the safety net of children falls on the retail pharmacist and the pediatrician. The burden of medication management and care coordination (especially with subspecialists) lies disproportionately on primary care pediatricians who are already resource and knowledge constrained (in specialized medications). Many pediatricians are uncomfortable intervening on the subspecialists scripts, despite polypharmacy and drug interactions. Currently, most retail pharmacists do not have access to patient weights when checking medication doses for children. This means that pharmacists cannot perform this critical step of dose checking. Let's not mention the indication, labs, etc for the clinical appropriateness. In addition, the retail pharmacists are over worked, burdened with unrealistic metrics, lack the resources (and in some cases training) to perform pediatric medication management. We need this to change. We need to bring awareness to this problem. We need to illuminate this gap in care, the silos creating errors. Our children have no safety net and medication errors are inevitable in our children. We need a quarterback, an expert who clinically managing ALL of our children's medications... I know Perfecting Peds can continue to scale and do so!

A few weeks ago, Colleen Lewis, MSN, ANP-BC, AOCNP, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute vice president, nursing and research, served as a panelist for a continuing medical education (CME) virtual session through Medscape Education. During this informative conversation, experts educated physicians, nurses and pharmacists on health equity in hematologic malignancies. Discussions surrounded strategies to overcome barriers to care, promotion of accessibility and diversity in clinical trials and optimization of health outcomes among patients from underrepresented and underserved populations. This CME activity is still available online and valid until April 10, 2025! If you are a hematologist/oncologist, nurse, nurse practitioner or pharmacist who treats, cares for or supports hematologic patients, click the following link to learn more about what you can do to promote equitable care in your practice: https://lnkd.in/eMr-fy4s.

Intravenous injection of medication – updated guide The guide includes a summary of key principles for healthcare professionals when administering intravenous (IV) medication. It focuses on the IV administration of medications by bolus injection (or "IV push") via the injection port of an IV administration set, or directly into a peripheral IV cannula (using an extension set). If the patient has an existing IV infusion running, the healthcare professional must check that the IV fluid is compatible with the medicine. If the IV fluid is not compatible, it is important to flush the IV cannula before and after administering the bolus injection, then restart the infusion. Checklists accompany this guide and can be used for assessment or as developmental tools. This guide has been updated by the author, Edda Hensler, who is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at the School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences, University of Brighton. It has been double-blind peer-reviewed. #nursing #clinical #elearning

ℹ️ Dear colleagues, I would like to say few words about discipline for medical staffs. 👩🏻⚕️ Discipline is a critical attribute that every medical staff should have. It not only ensures that patients receive the best possible care, but it also helps maintain professionalism, confidentiality, team spirit, and punctuality. ☝🏻 Therefore, it's time for all doctors, nurses and midwives to prioritize discipline in their day-to-day routines and live up to the expectations of patients. ℹ️ Discipline for medical staff includes: ⏰ time management: every day we come across multiple tasks and deadlines that require critical attention. Strict time management ensures that every task is finished on time, and our patients will not feels left out, 📝 strictly following treatment plans for patients: medications are administered precisely as prescribed, and treatments are carried out on time. A lack of discipline can significantly offset a patient's recovery, leading to unwanted outcomes, 🗝 the security of confidential patients' information, 🤝 being team players. It is vital to understand that delivering medical services requires teamwork from everyone involved in patient care, 👩🏻⚕️ maintaining a professional appearance every day to help instill confidence in patients, ❤️A calm and respectful behavior help our patients establish trust and confidence in the medical staff. #phnompenh #cambodia #oncologist #breastdoctor #oncologynurse #discipline #disciplineinmedicine
