Kelly Gordon yes, vessels do not show up on the radar. Wooden boats - especially lobster boats in Maine in the fog. Military vessels - off a large military installation I had an aircraft carrier call me and ask "what is your intention". The carrier fleet was several miles away in plain sight and nothing on the radar. These are just a couple examples of how you must use all of your other senses to be vigilant, especially in low or no visibility conditions. #radar #yachts #yachting #visibility #investwithscottkidd

I am reminded of a story about a fishing charter vessel who anchored in the shipping channel so that their clientele could drop their lines. When a ship was heading straight for them the charter owner yelled and carried on at the ship - as if he expected it to change course to avoid him (the owner or skipper on the day filmed the whole thing and posted it online!) Clearly - he survived, but it highlights the need for learning and understanding your Local Knowledge when boating. Safe Transport Victoria: Small boat operators must not anchor, moor, drift or engage in fishing activities within a transit only zone. The purpose of designating a transit only zone is: to avoid potential collisions between small boats and large commercial ships. #portphillipbay #boating
