From Burnout to Brilliance Empowering Educators and Transforming Teaching and Tutoring for a Brighter Future
🚨 New Teachers Struggle to Last the Course 🚨 This recent article by @Jeremywatson reveals a concerning trend: nearly one in five probationary teachers in Scotland's classrooms are leaving the profession before completing their first year. This dropout rate is the highest since before the Covid pandemic, highlighting the urgent need for support and solutions within the education sector. High workloads, large class sizes, and a lack of permanent job prospects are just some of the challenges faced by new entrants to the teaching profession. Shockingly, a third of surveyed teachers in Aberdeen reported being attacked in their classrooms, underscoring the severity of the issue. As someone deeply invested in the well-being and success of educators, it's disheartening to see talented individuals leave the profession due to these obstacles. That's why I'm committed to offering solutions to empower teachers and foster resilience in the classroom. My upcoming course, "From Burnout to Brilliance: Empowering Teachers to Thrive," provides a fresh perspective on overcoming burnout and reclaiming passion in teaching. By understanding the power of story in our lives and how it influences well-being, educators will gain valuable insights and practical tools to navigate challenges, cultivate resilience, and create a positive learning environment for students. It's time to address the root causes of teacher attrition and create a supportive environment where educators can thrive. Together, let's make a difference in the lives of teachers and students alike. Join me in this important mission! #TeacherWellbeing #Education #Resilience #SupportTeachers #EmpowerEducators #FromBurnoutToBrilliance

When it comes to hiring teachers, there's often a tendency to prioritize professional experience, especially in high school settings. However, it's time to rethink our approach, particularly when it comes to elementary education. While seasoned high school educators bring valuable skills, the formative years of elementary schooling require a specialized touch. That's why it's crucial to take a different stance and prioritize hiring professional teachers with expertise in elementary education. By doing so, we can ensure that our youngest learners receive the tailored support and guidance they need to thrive academically and personally. Let's shift our focus to prioritize excellence in elementary education. #Education #ElementaryEducation #Hiring #Teachers #AcademicExcellence 📚

I've been a huge advocate of not requiring degrees in recruiting, because it keeps a population who cannot achieve that level of education out (any oppressed community). But I think there's a danger is saying we don't NEED education. Education plays critical role in both individual and societal development. There are valid arguments against the education systems that we have, but have hope that they are changing. The push is to 1) teach kids HOW to learn, so they can apply it anywhere and 2) focus on critical thinking and logic. Without it, we are driven by fear and emotion. Powerful people gain when the masses aren't educated. The enemy is not education itself, but the systems that need reform.

The passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015 eliminated the federal requirement that teachers be highly qualified to teach. #TXST faculty members, James P. Van Overschelde and Minda Lopez, share research on how this has led some states to allow unqualified people to teach children. https://lnkd.in/gWggrfR6

If you have children, and have had any interaction with public schooling in the United States, you may know that the kind of education provided in our schools is supposed to be "adequate." That's at least what the law dictates, but there is no sense that public education is required to help students "live up to their potential." Their potential is up to them or their families, and there isn't much incentive for state-sponsored schools to go beyond what the law requires of them. Yet our educational experiences are primary determiners of our future possibilities. They shape what knowledge we're exposed to, what career pathways we imagine, and what we envision the world to be like. An "adequate" education seems inadequate to prepare for the unfolding future. The good news is that formal schooling, while important, need not be a limiting factor to our children's potential. Knowledge has never been more easily available and accessible. Gifted teachers are a couple of clicks away. And learning communities are no longer confined to my local neighborhood. Now the world is open with possibility. It takes some skillful navigation, some trial and error, to be sure. But it's exciting that, whatever small town or small-minded group we may be born into, we can grow beyond those boundaries, and grow into new possibilities. #education #lifelonglearning #training
