HCAI released a data product looking at the volume of cancer surgeries performed in California hospitals between 2016 and 2022! We especially hope that this information is helpful for those who plan to have cancer surgery since clinical literature supports a link between the number of surgeries hospitals perform and patient outcomes. Access the data product, our key findings, and our interactive graphs using this link: https://bit.ly/3HOAGd1 #HealthCareInformation #HCAI #Data

Taking stock of what we know about treating a specific cancer is an important part of evidence-based care. While our clinicians are constantly learning from each other and staying up to date with new research findings as they are published, period reviews of the literature are an important tool for collating evidence from across the world. Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Clinician Researcher and Director of Head and Neck Surgery, Professor Carsten Palme, has recently co-authored a review of primary management of operable locally advanced oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. The international research team reviewed the literature and sought input from a range of experts, and concluded that the management strategy for this specific cancer type should be determined in a multidisciplinary setting with an emphasis on tumour control, preserving the patient's oral functioning, and of course, quality of life. A systematic review (DOI: 10.1002/jso.27613) across 25 years of gastric cancer surgery trials highlights a significant gap in reporting core outcomes, with none of the 64 studies meeting all criteria. This inconsistent reporting affects the synthesis of data critical for informed decision-making and underscores the need for standardized outcome measures in future research to advance patient treatment outcomes. #SurgicalOncology #EvidenceBasedMedicine #ClinicalPractice #OutcomeResearch

Patient-centered care and co-creation of care are positively associated with satisfaction of care and the physical and social well-being of patients with multi-morbidity in the primary care setting (S. Kuipers 2019). That's why ESTS and Medela are inviting you to a joint #webinar on February 14, 2024 at 18:00 CET. Daniela Molena, MD and Alex Brunelli, MD will discuss how to translate general practice guidelines into customized protocols for postoperative care according to the specific needs of lung cancer and esophagus cancer surgery patients. A “key care elements” approach will be considered to ease implementation into the operational reality. #PatientCenteredCare #Medela #ESTS
