To my fellow fundraisers - If you are anything like me, #GivingTuesday is incredibly overwhelming. You may have a huge campaign to run that you've been working on for weeks. You may be worried that your numbers aren't trending where you expected as year-end gets closer. And, you may be so filled by the spirit of giving that you can't possibly choose where to give your own gifts. Well, I have a suggestion. It's to go meta. It's to give to an organization that is leading the way on reframing the work we do in this sector. It's to give to an organization that is creating a library of materials to prepare fundraisers to do their work. It's to give to an organization that has created a transformational community of practitioners. It's to give to an organization that has reframed the conversation about what equity means in fundraising. It's to give to an organization that is led by a cadre of phenomenal, inspiring, talented people. It's to give to Community-Centric Fundraising. Join me and the movement to align fundraising with social justice this Giving Tuesday.

“Quid pro quo” is Latin and means that something is given in exchange for something else. In consumer marketing, offering token items (often referred to as “premiums”) is frequently used to entice people to purchase a product or service. In fundraising, it can also be an effective technique to motivate donors. However, incorporating premiums into your appeals needs to be done in a way that not only incentivizes donors to take action but conveys a sense of philanthropic purpose and highlights gift impact. Register now for your entire team to learn how to incorporate premiums into your fundraising appeals in an appropriate and effective way. When a potential donation falls through, it's critical to look beyond the surface reasons a donor might offer. Common explanations like "lack of funds," "too busy," or "not interested" often mask deeper issues. To truly understand why opportunities are missed, we must dig deeper and ask more probing questions. It might be a matter of trust. Did we respond quickly and accurately to their questions? Have we spent enough time establishing a relationship and working towards a common goal? Perhaps we haven't communicated in a way that resonates with their values and worldview. Or maybe it's about priorities. Have we taken the time to understand what the donor cares about and supports? Did we consider their current commitments and check if the timing was right for them? In cases where a partner or family member influences the donor's decisions, have we involved them in the process? Have we recognized their philanthropic interests and included them in discussions and acknowledgments? These insights are invaluable. By addressing these underlying concerns, we can turn lost opportunities into learning experiences and ultimately, successful engagements. Engaging in this reflective process is crucial for any fundraising team aiming to improve their approach. Do you and your team regularly evaluate missed donations to refine your fundraising strategies? #FundraisingInsights #DonorRelations #NonprofitFundraising #Philanthropy #CommunityEngagement

Inspiring your audience to get involved with your organization is important, but it’s easy to focus on direct asks and funding above all else. Yes, donations are the key to maintaining your ongoing efforts, but have you considered other ways for your audience to get involved outside of financial giving? Even more common today, you’ll find generations of younger audiences wanting to join in as a part of something meaningful to make a difference. Their alignment with your message is already there, so if their only way of involvement is through donations, you may be limiting valuable potential for your support. Here are just a few ways you can provide for your community to get involved, therefore taking unneeded stress and burden off the plate of your staff: ✨ Ask for volunteers to support with a specific need of a certain project (in-person OR virtually!) ✨ Setup opportunities for peer-to-peer fundraising to provide additional funding outside of regular giving ✨ Develop partnerships with likeminded nonprofits and social enterprise business models who could support through resources or give-back programs ✨ Invite your local community to attend an event that you’re hosting (or invite your global audience to join in virtually!) ✨ Create a social media engagement plan that allows advocates to easily share updates about your work with friends and family What are unique ways that you’ve opened the door to your community to engage with and support your mission? #inclusivitymatters #nonprofitfundraising #helpinghands #communitysupport #nonprofitlife #givingback #nonprofitorganization #givelocal #supportyourcommunity #buildingcommunity

"I've never told anyone this before." If you're working in major gifts and you've never heard this, you might need to alter your approach. Many of you reading this will be able to recall several times a donor has told you something like "I've never told anyone this before" or "I don't know why I'm sharing this with you." This happens frequently to successful major gift fundraisers because if we're doing our jobs well, we're creating spaces where people can share. It's rare that people get asked thoughtful questions about their life, childhood, values, and dreams. When we ask good questions as major gift fundraisers, we're of course learning pertinent information about the donor, but more importantly, we're showing them that we're truly interested in them. If you want to be great at major gifts, become really curious about the people you're meeting with. Hearing people's stories has always been my favorite part of fundraising. Do you find this to be true, or do you prefer to WOW them with how awesome your case for support is? #OneVisitAway #nonprofits #MajorGiftMillions #philanthropy

For many of us, we may not think of the "why" behind our generosity. For example, when the offering plate is passed, we may place a few dollar bills in and not reflect further on our actions. We are disconnected not only from the causes we are supporting but also from those in our community. This is why true generosity starts with causes over dollars. It starts with seeing the needs of others and championing those causes with your church and community. True generosity is more than the checks we write, it includes being generous with our time and our energy as well. So how can we reconnect with the needs in our communities? One of the best ways to connect to causes you care about is by joining a giving circle! A giving circle is a group of people who gather together to pool their financial resources and multiply the charitable effect they can have. Learn how a giving circle like One Hundred Roses can help you make a difference in your community: https://lnkd.in/gxpRbFBW #givingcircle #blogs #community
