Today’s budget announcement had a few tweaks around capital gain tax rates. Stock markets reacted sharply on negative side while announcements being made but closed at higher levels before markets were closed. Budget day is a non event in many of the developed economies. We need better & wider net of the direct taxes to include sectors like agriculture as well (Higher slabs can be used for initial years of adoption). Reform in this direction would bring parity amongst the industries and avoid feeling of being excessively taxing salaried class irrespective of political party at centre. #Budget2024
