We had a chance to unpack #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets in a recent podcast with Carbon Market Watch. 🎧: https://lnkd.in/eQaZaHfb 🗞️: https://lnkd.in/dQ96rDrB ⚡ #CCSIonEnergyTransition At a value of $2 billion, the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) is still at a nascent stage, with optimistic projections indicating a massive takeoff in the coming years. Our recent research analyzes banks' engagement in the VCM and highlights a couple of key takeaways: 1. Banks are hesitant to engage with the VCM due to three primary reasons: reputational risks associated with historically disappointing carbon credit integrity, small market size, and a lack of trust in market infrastructure. 2. Many startups are acting in the space to enhance the credibility of the market, as well as to facilitate market mechanisms. Startups focus on a range of VCM topics, including: carbon credit trading, credit verification and ratings, advisory services and analytics, and insurance. In the course of 30 minutes, Jack Arnold from #CCSI and Benja Faecks discuss everything from how these markets are defined to the ways in which VCMs in their current form pose risks to counterintuitively undermine climate action.
