Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. Scientific evidence indicates that pesticides contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions while also making our agricultural systems more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. However, the reduction of synthetic pesticide use has been omitted from climate change solutions, and synthetic pesticide use is even presented as a climate change mitigation strategy by industrial agriculture interests. This is wrong. In our report, Pesticides & Climate Change: A Vicious Cycle, we detail the intersection of pesticides and climate change, how pesticides contribute to climate change, how climate change contributes to increased use of pesticides in industrial farming, and – importantly – how we can escape this cycle by employing agroecological practices. For years, #climatescientists have called for a phase-out of #fossilfuels to avoid catastrophic #globalwarming. Now, according to a first-of-its-kind survey of more than 200 #environmental and #agricultural scientists, we must also drastically reduce #meat and dairy production — and fast. https://lnkd.in/dQ3tXqJJ
The next big climate deadline is for meat and dairy

How can intensifying agricultural production help address the food systems and climate crises? A new food system that meets demand and biodiversity and net zero targets is needed. Intensifying agricultural production in a sustainable way could help. https://lnkd.in/eFYDyfva

CLIMATE CHANGE FACETS: FOOD SCARCITY AND INFLATION The #climatecrises (plural), regrettably are here to stay due to our carelessness to the natural environment that has evolved over the past 10,000 yrs & the business-as-usual habits associated w/ the illusion of perpetual economy growth The drums of #climatechange risk have been sounding ever louder since the mid 1980s when scientists #CarlSagan (comparing the risk of warming conditions with other Planets...his video is a must-watch that gives full-body shiverings) & #JamesHansen both testified about #globalwarming to the US Congress. Watch videos from Yale Climate Connections & other: 1) https://lnkd.in/d-CHS2_F 2) https://lnkd.in/dkGK4Yrz Nobody bothered In fact, the first registered prediction of the possibility of humans warming the planet was made by Svante Arrhenius in 1896 & the evidence of actual warming by the continuous accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere began to show up in the 1960s And today there are still those disbelievers like the most concerning of all the potential future US President Trump, who if wins the "lottery" may set back years of our battle against climate change In any event, how could we, the smartest and most intelligent of beings to ever walk on the Earth be so infatuated by our individual egotistic selfish interests that we did not see this #climatehell coming towards us at an ever-increasing frequency and intensity? And there are many still who do not realize, based on conservative historical data, that this is the #NewNormal Our #climate change pattern shifted in magnitude since the Pandemics (just to use as a reference point) and the destruction/ damage that it is causing to our civilization is already unquantifiable (if one broadens the view beyond the plain surface numbers) & it will get more critical yet w/ in parallel the world population growing (currently 8,1 Bi from1/2 of in just the 1960s) & w/ the lightening speed in which technology is evolving people will live much longer We must be totally realistic & honest We are being attacked from all sides & it is a disservice to address our population w/ the usual soft optimistic language that the future will be bright if our world leaders take the necessary steps (top-down) without also sturdily alerting & motivating all global individuals to pressure their local decision-makers, within their own limitations, to act boldly & fast (bottom-up) Of course, we must be decisive to modify our own ways of living, as well We, the climate-change-army, must follow the example of the brave & courageous #UnitedNations's Chief Administrative Officer #AntonioGuterres who has been absolutely iron-handed clear screening out about the immense risk to our civilization using shaking/waking-up words like #globalboiling, #climatehell & alike Currently, each month that passes by & we do not take a potent action against the #climatecrisis, this is equivalent to 1 year lost on the battlefield
Conventional agriculture is under an existential threat from climate change: "Regions such as South America and Africa already routinely experience temperatures close to the thresholds at which they become damaging to crops". It's not getting better either. https://buff.ly/4cqF66i

3modoesn't help they are the primary and money-making reason for the existence of GMOs, either - the more resistant to pesticides you make the food, the more pesticides you can sell - until you can't anymore and you have to turn to the much worse poisons (like GMO farmers have to use now with dicamba and similar) karma is real and unless you buy organic, we are paying the price. And organic farming alone can't stave off the toll these pesticides are having on soil and climate, let alone farmworkers' health - there simply isn't enough of it - yet. #banpesticides #foodsupply #ban_GMOs
