Locating and identifying critical underground assets for protection during construction in urban conditions can be difficult. Beyond identifying pipes, cables, and other utilities, tunnels are another important structural component to everyday life in urban settings. Making sure these and other infrastructure in the underground space are protected so people's lives are not disrupted is a crucial part of our job every day. [MOBILITY] Since 📅2019, they have highlighted the 3 kilometres of a 🚇 tunnel that has made it possible to lighten the load on the city of Nice: the four underground stations on the west-east line of the 📍Nice tramway are the culmination of a challenge taken up by the Bouygues Travaux Publics teams. Built in an extremely dense urban environment with a complex geological subsoil, they required constant risk management to limit the settlement of the buildings to less than 10 millimetres. The stations are designed like underground car parks, with diaphragm walls and "top-down" earthworks under a covering slab. 445,000 tonnes of spoil were excavated by the slurry pressure balance tunnel boring machine to build the tunnel and 100,000 tonnes for the stations. This was transported to a treatment plant in the port of Nice, the majority of it was then transferred by conveyor belt to barges for removal by sea. Breaking Through: The Bayliss Road Wastewater Trunk Extension! 🔍 Project Overview As Park Ridge experiences rapid development, this gravity main becomes essential to service the catchment area and efficiently transports flows from Bayliss Road Wastewater Pump Station to the upcoming Rai Drive Wastewater Pump Station. Micro-Tunnelling Precision Approximately 760 meters of the Gravity Main (GM) are being meticulously constructed via micro-tunnelling. Micro-tunnelling, a trenchless construction method, was strategically planned to coincide with environmentally protected areas and the Park Ridge Road crossing. The remaining GM (about 390 meters) will be crafted via open trenching. 🎥 The Breakthrough Moment: Pezzimenti Tunnelbore, our dedicated project contractor, has successfully completed 680 meters of the 780-meter trenchless micro tunnel. In the video, witness the 1080mm-diameter Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) breaking through to the reception shaft with jaw-dropping accuracy. The TBM drilled 206 meters with astonishing precision—just 30mm off the mark vertically and horizontally. TBM Gillian joins the journey to enhance Melbourne's freeway network, driving towards a sustainable future The North East Link project in Melbourne has commenced the journey of its second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), named Gillian, following the progress of TBM Zelda. These TBMs will excavate twin tunnels, digging approximately 10 meters daily and reaching depths of up to 45 meters. The construction utilizes 100% renewable electricity, with locally produced concrete segments used for tunnel walls. In tandem with tunneling, five road headers are actively excavating the southern section of the tunnels using mined tunneling techniques. While minor vibrations may occur, they will be carefully monitored.
