Proof that collaboration, combined with a 'not-giving up' and 'can-do-attitude' leads to results in the long run. Well done to all involved in the JET project, and looking forward to following (and maybe participating) in the follow-up project.

If anyone could prepare you to build a complex project like the DeathStar it would be Kiri Parr! Check out her upcoming webinar with the Project Management Institute. A case study on ITER- International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor covering: ☝️What is different about complex projects and how they are managed? ✌️How does a project’s elements shape project management, from funding and expertise to IP and incentives? 🤟Why is the ITER project embracing collaboration?
How do you build the Death Star? Or, as it is more simply known here on earth, ITER - the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. This is the title of my next event for Project Management Institute on 17 October 2024. I'll be exploring what is different about complex projects and how they are managed. How a project’s founding elements shape its management, from funding and expertise to IP and incentives? And finally, why the ITER project is embracing collaboration. Lastly, a photo from my site visit in 2023. Cleanest work site ever. Hope to see lots of you there. Register here https://lnkd.in/gKJvkb5Q

The Open Nuclear Network is now part of PAX sapiens. Key Highlights: - Collaboration: ONN will join other peace and security programs at PAX, including Our Secure Future. - Enhanced Engagement: We aim to complement PAX's work on critical issues like China-United States relations. - Hybrid Model: PAX operates as a hybrid grantmaking and operating foundation, and ONN will be a vital part of its operational work. - Continued Efforts: We will continue to build our activities in foresight and forecasting, research and analysis, monitoring and assessment, and engagement and networks. - Fundraising: As an operational part of the foundation, external fundraising remains crucial to our growth and validation. - Future Grantmaking: PAX plans to open up grantmaking resources for the nuclear community, though specifics are still under review. The longer story: We will be joining other peace and security programmes of the foundation, including Our Secure Future, and the intention is to complement PAX's existing engagement work, such as its work on China-United States relations. PAX is a hybrid grantmaking and operating foundation. The ONN will form part of its operating work. As such, we will bring our existing and emerging efforts in foresight and forecasting, research and analysis, monitoring and assessment, and engagement and networks to the foundation. As with any operating part of a foundation, we're expected to continue to build our activities and growth through external fundraising. There's no getting away from that, as we validate our own worth in terms of how much the wider community, governments and other philanthropic organisations are willing to invest in us. However, the merger is also intended to open up resources for philanthropy. Here, PAX is expected to open up a mirrored effort in grantmaking for the nuclear community. How much we, as a grantmaking foundation, intend to invest in the nuclear community and how we intend to do so is still a matter of internal review. So we're most assuredly not accepting any applications yet. Those who attended the Oppenheimer screening in London last year would have gotten a preview of our founder's intent there. This is a great development for a field and a community that, over the past years, has experienced a virtual draught in investment from both foundations and governments. This statement from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority is significant because it's not limited to any particular plant or site. The advantage of Steady Energy's modular plant is that its design can be approved in advance, and it can then be deployed serially. This way a local energy company, after deciding on an investment, can move directly to planning and implementation.
Steady Energy, a Finnish developer of a small nuclear reactors, has sent the first plans of their nuclear plant design to the Nuclear Radiation and Safety Authority (STUK) for evaluation. STUK will provide their assessment of the feasibility of the plant in the spring of 2025. After the evaluation process is completed, the Steady Energy plant design will be ready for the ”decision in principle process” (DiP). "We can now show that we are selling a functioning plant, not just a concept. The interest from customers towards our plant cocept has been significant," says Steady Energy's CEO Tommi Nyman.
