Pharmafilter provides an economical onsite infrastructural solution that purifies hospital wastewater and decontaminates infectious waste at its source. It removes active pharmaceutical ingredients, antibiotics, micropollutants, organic and non-organic compounds, and harmful pathogens before entering our water, soil, and air, creating a cleaner hospital and healthier environment. Pharmafilter GH, in collaboration with our partners in the ITN programme, firmly believes that the Pharmafilter technical solution plays a crucial role in the fight against AMR. Our system is designed to safeguard patients and public health by targeting a key source of antimicrobial resistance: hospital wastewater and waste at the source. Hospitals use vast amounts of water daily, producing a potent cocktail that enters our water systems through urine, faeces, and other effluent discharged from various departments. These pollutants can't be treated at traditional wastewater treatment plants, creating an ideal breeding ground for AMR to multiply as pathogens swap genes and interact with pharmaceutical residues. Pharmafilter Platform Technology System: a cleaner hospital, a healthier environment. Pharmafilter is at the forefront of the fight to remove AMR and other hospital-generated pollutants at source, protecting our health and the environment.

Here is an ITN interview with Peter Kelly on the Pharmafilter system, part of the excellent programme on the threat of Antimicrobial Resistance to public health. The Pharmafilter system seeks to safeguard patients and public health by treating harmful waste and wastewater at its source. In their day-to-day business, hospitals use vast amounts of water, producing a potent cocktail that finds its way into our water systems through urine and faeces. Many of the drugs administered in hospitals are so powerful that the patient can only metabolise 20% of them: the rest finds its way into traditional wastewater treatment plants, which are not equipped to remove this complex micropollution and can be an ideal breeding ground for harmful pathogens and antimicrobial resistance as they swap genes and interact with pharmaceutical residues. Pharmafilter provides an upstream solution that purifies hospital wastewater at its source, removing all pharmaceuticals, antibiotics, and harmful pathogens from hospital wastewater before they find their way into our water, soil, and air, creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all. #amr #cleanwater #onehealth
