Evatec’s Principal Scientist, Dr. Stephan Waldner, will present a poster on the design, manufacturing, and characterization of multilayer mirrors based on magnetron sputtered quantized nanolaminates at the #SPIE Laser Damage Conference in San Ramon, US, on October 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM.      Dr. Waldner will compare mirrors with and without quantized nanolaminates (QNL) designed for the wavelength of 1030nm. The designs are either standard quarter wave stacks or optimized to reduce the electric field in the higher index layers. The SiO2-Ta2O5 QNL and standard high-low materials (Ta2O5 and SiO2) are deposited on a Evatec CLUSTERLINE® 200 BPM magnetron sputter tool. 🥇 First PIC laser at 637 nm demonstrated 💡 Researchers at the University of Twente, in collaboration with TOPTICA Photonics, LioniX International and PHIX Photonics Assembly, have achieved a breakthrough in laser technology: The chip-integrated laser, based on a photonic integrated circuit (PIC), is broadly tunable around 637 nm. This is the first time a PIC laser has been demonstrated at this wavelength. The new hybrid-integrated extended cavity diode laser (ECDL) offers coarse tuning over 8 nm and mode-hop-free tuning up to 97 GHz, as well as an exceptionally narrow linewidth of 10 kHz. Designed for high precision, the laser is particularly suited for applications involving nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in quantum technologies and HeNe laser replacement in metrology. This advancement brings compact and stable laser systems closer to commercial use in quantum sensing, communications and other cutting-edge fields. The laser's robust design, packaged with fiber output, allows for easy integration into complex optical systems.
