Yesterday, the Biden administration published a proposed rule that would make it harder for migrants to get asylum if they cross the border into the U.S. after passing through Mexico or any other country without seeking protection. This new rule is currently set for May 11th, when Title 42 restrictions are expected to be lifted. We are deeply disappointed in the Biden administration’s issuance of a “transit ban” to prevent vulnerable migrants from seeking refuge at our southern border. Participants experience a transformative educational experience where they will learn key outdoors skills—like safety planning, backpacking, and sea kayaking—and gain practical expertise to discuss the most critical social and environmental justice issues of our time. It’s a devastating day when the International Rescue Committee and other NGOs have to suspend programmes in #Afghanistan in light of the recent Taliban ban on women working in NGOs. As a result of this ban not only will those we serve suffer, but the thousands of female workers in Afghanistan who now find themselves without work. I’m proud to work for an organization that will find a way to support our staff no matter what, but completely saddened by these damaging policies.
