Peter Linder’s Post

Reflecting on 10 years of IoT growth and how it relates to phones, mobile phones, and PCs/Laptops/Tablets IoT was envisioned as one of the growth vehicles for 5G, with initial uncertainty on the distribution between wide-area and short-range IoT. What are the five things to stand out to you in this graph? My thoughts gravitate around: 1. Fixed phones (-200 million), Mobile phones (+1140 million), and PC/Laptop/Tablet (+52 million) look flat in comparison to IoT just around 10 billion devices 2. Short-range IoT has added the most significant number of devices (+12.3 billion) during the period. 3. Wide-area IoT has grown fastest (12X) during the period. 4. Wide-area IoT passed the total number of PCs/Laptop/Tablets in 2019. 5. Volumes of short-range and wide-area IoT devices overtook mobile phone volumes in 2020. #IoT #CellularIoT #4G #5G #EricssonMobilityReport

The short range numbers make sense since most IoT solutions are indoors.
