Critical Social Justice can be best understood as the fusion of critical theory and postmodern Theory for the purposes of achieving “Social Justice” through identity politics, identity must be central to all of the thought and activism of the Critical Social Justice project.

Do you worry about the messages your child absorbs from the world? I do, and I believe it's crucial to talk about fairness and respect early on. Children are incredibly perceptive. They notice how the world works, even if they don't fully understand discrimination. That's why I'm committed to discussing #feminism, LGBTQIA+ issues, #racism, classism, and casteism with my child. We can't shield our kids from everything, but we can equip them to navigate a complex world. If we don't teach #equality and #respect, we leave space for prejudice. Early exposure to these ideas builds empathy and #challenges harmful stereotypes they might encounter. Teaching social justice isn't about overwhelming children. It's about fostering their innate sense of fairness – explaining why sharing matters, discussing different families, or pointing out unkind behavior in stories. These age-appropriate explanations empower them to challenge #injustice. This kind of upbringing has a lasting impact. Children who understand these concepts grow into adults less likely to discriminate and more inclined to stand up for what's right. They make workplaces more #inclusive, communities more welcoming, and they challenge systems that perpetuate inequality. Of course, we don't have to have all the answers ourselves. By having open, honest conversations, we model the curiosity and critical thinking we want our children to embrace. I talk to my son, Parthh, about these things, always meeting him at his level. ❌ Children are supposed to be safe and protected by adults at school (and at home). ❌ Parents are supposed to feel confident that their children are safe when they’re sent to school. ❌ Schools are supposed to keep children safe. These are basic, fundamental principles of society. Yet again and again we seem to be unwilling to meet this incredibly low bar. We need to do better because our children (and adults) deserve better. Nex Benedict went through what should be unimaginable but has become too common and familiar. ✅ You don’t have to understand being trans or nonbinary to keep children safe. ✅ You don’t have to be liberal to keep children safe. ✅ You don’t have to contradict your religious beliefs to keep children safe. Tonight, I’ll hug my teenagers extra tight which Nex’s family won’t be able to do. Then, we’ll talk about what happened, how they’re making sense of it, and what we as cisgender folk do or do not do to allow harm and violence against nonbinary folk.  https://lnkd.in/eAUdFs44

Dr Carmel Wards blog post in this weeks Scealta, is a very thought provoking and timely piece. As you read through it, you may find that you are starting to feel uncomfortable reflecting on your own practice. That is a good thing. Keep going! It may just mean that you are challenging your thinking and biases, rather than just reaffirming them. "Before educators and practitioners can support children to recognise discrimination, including racism, and know what to do when they encounter it, adults need to think and talk openly about these issues". Use this opportunity to start thinking about,and talking about issues of discrimination and racism, in your community. Unfortunately, you won't have to search far to find examples.
