Banks have rallied behind nuclear energy expansion at Climate Week NYC 2024. ⚛️ Fourteen major financial institutions, including Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, have announced their support for the United Nations COP28 declaration to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050. 🌎 Other supporters include Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Ares Management Corporation, Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Brookfield, Crédit Agricole CIB, Guggenheim Securities, Rothschild & Co., Segra Capital Management LLC and Societe Generale.  Nuclear made up 19% of total energy produced in the US last year, and has been the country's largest source of clean energy for many years. Zap Energy, a Washington-based startup developing fusion power technology, recently secured $130 million in Series D funding. 💵 This brings Zap Energy’s total capital raised to $327 million, positioning it among the top fusion startups by investment. 👏 Zap Energy uses something called "sheared flow stabilized Z-pinch" technology. It delivers cost-effective fusion energy without the need for expensive magnets or lasers, which are usually required to create fusion conditions. ☀️ The company will generate 50 megawatts of power per unit, enough to supply electricity to 50,000-60,000 homes. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) has announced its intent to fund $1.3 billion for carbon capture projects. 💵 The DOE estimates that the U.S. will need to capture and store somewhere between 400 million and 1.8 billion tons of CO2 annually by 2050 in order to meet climate goals. Pyka, an electric aviation developer, has raised $40 million in Series B funding. 💵 The company is focused on autonomous electric aircraft for agricultural 🌽, commercial cargo 📦, and defense applications 🪖. Pyka's aircraft include the Pelican Spray for crop protection and Pelican Cargo for long-range transportation. The latter can transport up to 400 lbs for up to 200 miles. ✈️ The investment will help scale production and support both U.S. and international operations. Carbon transformation company Twelve has announced $645 million in funding to produce jet fuel, e-chemicals, and other fossil fuel derived products. 👍 The round is one of the largest ever for the e-fuels industry, with $400 million in project equity led by TPG Rise Climate, $200 million in Series C financing, and $45 million in credit facilities. 💵 Twelve’s E-Jet® SAF is produced from CO2, water and renewable energy. It has up to 90% lower lifecycle emissions than conventional jet fuel. ✈️ With this investment, Twelve will finish construction of AirPlant One, their first sustainable jet fuel facility located in Washington.
