Drummers have always said that the depth of a snare drum matters. “You can get a better crack with a shallow drum and a beefier punch with a deeper drum.” In this video, I hope to strip away some of those preconceived notions and show you that it’s not the drum but the drummer playing it that determines the sound created. In this example, I am using three different snare drums. Weir 14” x 6.5” 8-ply African mahogany snare drum DW 14” x 5” All Maple Collector’s Series 10+6 snare drum (Feb. 17th, 2006) Yamaha 1984 SD-980RP Hot Red Recording Custom 14” x 8” Snare Drum They all have different drum heads, snare wires, shell construction, bearing edges, shell thickness, and hardware. With all of these differences, you would think there would be a drastic difference in the sound as well. Yet after listening to all three, you can hear how close these snare drums sound. This conclusion expresses that head choice, tuning, and the player make an impact on the overall sound made by a drum. What do you guys think? Do you hear a difference between the three?
