[CULTIVATED MEAT NEWS: THE EU COMMISSION CONFIRMS THAT REG. 853/2004 ON HYGIENE RULES FOR FOOD OF ANIMAL ORIGIN APPLIES TO CULTIVATED MEAT] The EU Commission has published an updated version of its guidance document on the implementation of Regulation 853/2004 on the hygiene requirements for food of animal origin. The document - SANCO/10098/2009 Revision 2023 - is still in a draft phase. Interestingly, in point 3.4 - Establishments handling food of animal origin for which no detailed requirements are laid down, the Commission states that for certain products of animal origins (including insects and cultivated meat - note also that the designation 'cultivated meat' is used), the food "must be handled in accordance with the relevant requirements laid down in Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 and with the general rules for products of animal origin laid down in Regulation (EC) No 853/2004". The Commission goes on to state that more detailed food safety aspects will be taken into account in the novel food authorisations, based on EFSA's opinions, and that the specific requirements of Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 may be considered in the future for cultivated meat. #foodlaw #food #cultivatedmeat #requirements #safety #foodsafety #hygiene #Commission #EU #regulatoryaffairs #lifesciences #law https://lnkd.in/dJkui_Fe
