Texans should adopt this holiday season to avoid supporting and endorsing out-of-state puppy mills that supply pet stores and sell pets online. What if you want a purebred? The purebred dog you are looking for might be at your local shelter. Did you know that 25% to 30% of dogs in shelters are purebreds? By adopting a pet from your local shelter or rescue, you will free up space for another homeless animal to have the opportunity to find a forever home and relieve the pressure on shelters and rescues. https://lnkd.in/gGYnbMwB

🐾💔 Putting an End to Canine Euthanasia: A Call for Change 💔🐾 My heart is broken as I write this post today. Countless dogs are being euthanized every year, a fate that no living being deserves. Our furry companions bring us boundless joy, unwavering loyalty, and a love that knows no bounds. 1. One crucial step is to address the overpopulation crisis. Spaying and neutering our pets is not only responsible but also a way to curb the overwhelming number of unwanted litters. 2. Adoption is another integral part of the solution. Shelters are filled with dogs longing for a forever home. Let's make adoption the first option and break the cycle of buying pets from breeders when there are beautiful souls waiting for a second chance. 3. Let’s lobby for stricter laws that promote responsible pet ownership and prioritize the well-being of animals. 4. Let's support organizations and initiatives that work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs. Let's make a commitment to spay and neuter our pets, and encourage our friends and family to do the same. Together, we can create a world where no dog is left behind. Every dog deserves a chance at life, a chance to find a loving home, and a chance to bring happiness to a family. #StopCanineEuthanasia #AdoptDontShop #SpayAndNeuter #DogLoversUnite 🐶❤️🙏

Reposting Posted @furrytail.endings This is one of the hardest videos I’ve ever had to make. I spent time with every single one of these dogs, feeding them treats and comforting them, not knowing which day would be their last. You can see their eyes look at me lovingly as I video them. We couldn’t save these babies in time. All of them are dead and were euthanized by the Downey Animal Care Center. The amount of guilt, sadness, and anger I feel for them can’t even be expressed in words. The shelter crisis we are experiencing right now in the state of California is absolutely unfathomable. Healthy, sweet, adoptable dogs are losing their lives every single day at rapid rates and it is IMPOSSIBLE for us to rescue & adopt our way out of it. The shelter runs out of space because more negligent idiots surrender their dogs, don’t take care of them, and breed them. So then what? Where do we house all these animals? Where do we put them? How do we continue to keep saving when everytime we save one, ten more enter the shelter??? The next time you see one of your ignorant friends buying a puppy, please send this video. In fact, PLEASE share this video to your story right now. So many people are oblivious as to the amount of animals that are being put to sleep. There was a time when I, myself, thought that the entire state of California was “no-kill” until someone reshared a euthanasia listed LA shelter dog in need. Your simple re-share might educate someone and inspire them to help our animals. Please volunteer. Please foster. Please adopt. Please donate. Please share. Please educate. Please beg our leaders in our communities for CHANGE. This issue starts at the top with our government. If we don’t lobby for change, there will never be any. We need to be the voice for these voiceless angels. There has to be a better way out of this. 💔 #stopkilling #adoptdontshop #nokill #shelterdogs #shelterdog #corruption #evil #truthbetold

I volunteer in animal rescue. Along with fostering, I spend over $2k a year caring for a local colony (not including spay/neuter and vet fees). I am one of many but we can only do so much. Some animals die in abusive homes, some on the streets, and some in shelters. A lucky few are adopted. If you own a business, partner with your local shelters. Cats are great pest control and hey, donations are a tax deduction. Like to be active? Take a shelter dog out for your run. Bake some dog treats. Craft a few toys. Hell, give those carrots you bought for Santa's reindeer to some real, hungry animals. There are more animals in need of homes than there are people wanting to adopt. If you do nothing else, please get your pets fixed and encourage those you know to do the same. You will save so many lives by doing so. #animalwelfare #animalhealth #makeadifference #makeanimpact #foster #adoption #communityengagement #communitydevelopment

Here in the US we have a crisis hidden by a broken system within animal services and the public served. This is not the shelter staffs fault. As a nation we want it when we want it. It's time to rethink animal shelter processes . If you think about it buying and selling of pets is the only market we have not gotten under control. take a look at craigslist ,under pets. thousands of rehoming ads.aka for sale. We need to build a system that gives them what they want , the ability to shop for pets without the guilt of a shelter experience. I have created a plan that will reinvent our handling of lost and homeless pets.Decrease the killing , take the burden off the city and county while taking the financial costs off the rescues for vetting. including an adoption center that allows same day adoption of decompressed and fully vetted animals . Sounds impossible but it's not I have obsessed over this for 20 years and made a plan of action. I need help to get it off the ground . the simplicity of it will blow your mind.

From every sale we complete, we donate $500 towards animal rescue programs in WA, CA, (and more states at times) and the Philippines so that we make a difference locally, nationally and internationally. It's our goal to help stem the tide of dogs being dumped into shelters, and that starts with responsible dog ownership, including training your dog. Want to help? In order to understand the overcrowding animal shelter epidemic, it's important to understand the difference between a rescue and an open county shelter. In general, an open county shelter is required to take every dog. Rescues are not. So every stray dog, and every owner surrender is taken into the shelter (yes, some do close open enrollment in crisis). Does that help to understand why shelters are overcrowded and euthanize for space? For me, there's a VERY sad difference. In a rescue, I generally have the luxury of time to help a dog. In a shelter, I do not have that luxury;-( I hope this helps.

Today is International Homeless Animal Day 🐶 If you or someone you know is facing housing challenges, talk to them about Pets of the Homeless. Pets of the Homeless is an incredible organization devoted to “keeping pets and humans together.” They provide a variety of resources to the unhoused community including pet food, emergency veterinary care, wellness clinics, and help locating pet-friendly shelters. You can also take action to advocate for more resources for unhoused people and their pets. The Providing for Unhoused People with Pets (PUPP) Act would establish a grant program for homeless shelters, so they can access the funds they need to support clients with pets. Check out our action alert template here: https://lnkd.in/gRufCxmZ #homelessanimals #homeless #animals #pets #resources

Do you volunteer or work with shelter cats? If they don't already have a scratching option, Stretch and Scratch might be the answer! I donated a set of 50 to our local humane society so that our higher-need cats could have an energy outlet. Scratchers can't be reused with another cat, due to the risk of the transmission of diseases, and so DYI scratchers are obviously a more affordable option. If you volunteer or work with shelter cats, how could you make or buy scratchers for them?
