Nearly 10 million pets go missing each year – and Petco Love Lost is here to help them return home. They have simplified the search for lost and found pets by offering a free central location to report, search, and share. Their database includes pets reported by individuals as well as thousands of shelter partners across the country. Love my job and love the work One Tail at a Time does to support Chicago pets and pet parents. So glad Figo Pet Insurance could support them by donating 43K pounds of pet food to One Tail's Pet Mutual Aid Center, which provides resources to pet parents in need. The behind-the-scenes work it took to make this donation happen was one of the more interesting exercises in problem-solving I've encountered in my career so far, and involved tackling questions like: - "How does one move 43K pounds of food from one place to another?" (Answer: A big truck!) - "Can you fit a semi-truck in a standard Chicago alley?" (Answer: No! So then, we'll need several slightly smaller trucks...) - "How quickly can One Tail assemble volunteers to move this much pet food?" (Answer: Extremely quickly!) - "What do you do when Costco doesn't accept your corporate card because (duh) Costco warehouses don't take AmEx?" (Answer: Get creative!) All made totally worth it (and honestly a ton of fun) by collaborating with great partners and team members. Shout out to our friends at Costco Wholesale for helping to make this donation possible.

Imagine being asked to choose between your best friend, and a bed for the night. Imagine having to refuse medical care because there is no one to care for your pet. Imagine having no fixed abode so no registered vet, and your animal is sick and needs care. Street paws works to help maintain the bond between humans and their pets by working to ensure being homeless does not mean leaving your pet behind in order to get ahead in life. On this, International Homeless Animal Day, can you help us to keep doing our work? A one off payment could mean we can offer vet treatment for a sick animal. A regular payment could help our Dog Champion’s Scheme, supporting accommodation for homeless people to become pet friendly so people do not need to choose between a dog for the night, and their pets. There is a lot of preconceived notions amongst the public about Friendicoes receiving donations and government funding but today in this video hear Geeta Seshamani bust some myths and tell you the actual facts about the funding situation. Friendicoes is run purely on public donations, with money you donate for the animals. And whilst we do work with municipal corporations and animal husbandry departments in vaccination sterilisation projects, and these programmes do get subsidised by them, these subsidies do not cover the entire cost incurred by Friendicoes and often fail to reach us until over a year later. Many of the dogs that come in under the MCD collaborated ABC program frequently suffer from other health complications and require long-term care that necessitate more expenses than what the government subsidises. However, our love and commitment to animals motivate such extra care and costs, often without considering the funds we receive vis-à-vis the expenses. It is a cause we cherish, sustained only through the efforts of people like you. Please know that every time you visit Friendicoes, you are entering a sanctuary created to raise the quality of life for animals who are ill or abandoned. It is, therefore, with your support and understanding that we can grow and ensure that more and more animals are cared for, rescued and given a second chance at life.
