The summer heat brings all sorts of adventures for pet parents. But with all this excitement, it's important to keep our furry friends safe. While you’re having your end-of-summer fun, keep these helpful and hot tips in mind. ☀️ 🚗 Hot Cars: Even in 85°F, a car can reach 120°F in 30 minutes! Never leave your pets in the car, even with the windows cracked. 💧 Dehydration: Panting cools dogs down, but in excess can lead to dehydration. Always have plenty of fresh water for your pup. 🔥 Overheating/Heat Stroke: Dogs can overheat quickly. Watch out for signs of heat stroke, especially in shorter-snouted breeds (like bulldogs and pugs). Keep them cool and avoid midday walks. 🐾 Paw Burns: Pavement can get scorching hot! On an 80°F day, it can reach up to 125°F. Protect those paws by sticking to grassy areas or waiting for cooler parts of the day. 🌞 Summer Heat Alert for Pet Owners! 🌞 As the temperatures rise, it’s crucial to ensure our furry friends stay safe from two major summer hazards: hot pavement and the dangers of leaving pets in cars. Let’s keep our pets happy and healthy with these essential tips: Hot Pavement: 🔥 Scorching Surfaces: Pavement can become unbearably hot, especially during midday. A quick test: if you can’t comfortably hold your hand or foot on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet's paws! 🐾 Timing is Everything: Schedule walks early in the morning or late in the evening when the ground is cooler. These times are not only more comfortable for your pets but also safer. 👟 Protective Gear: Invest in protective booties for your pets. These can provide a barrier against the heat and keep those delicate paws safe. Consider short walks in shaded areas or grass when comfortable to do so. Cars and Heat: 🚗 Dangerous Traps: Never, ever leave your pets in a parked car, even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside a car can skyrocket to deadly levels within minutes. 😓 Heat Stroke Warning Signs: Be vigilant for symptoms of heat stroke in your pets, such as heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, and vomiting. Quick action can save lives. 📞 Take Action: If you see an animal in distress in a parked car, don’t hesitate—contact local authorities immediately. Your prompt response could mean the difference between life and death. Remember, our pets rely on us to keep them safe. Let’s enjoy a fun and safe summer together! Share these tips to spread awareness and protect our furry companions from the summer heat. 🐶🐱❤️ #PetSafety #SummerHeat #ProtectOurPets #PetCareTips #DrJessicaVogelsang

We hope you have a Happy Fourth of July! Just a reminder, this time of year can be tough for pets. Many get stressed by the sounds of fireworks and firecrackers, some so much that they bolt from their homes. Please remember these safety tips: * Make sure your pet stays indoors during the holiday. It’s fun to bring dogs to public places, but fireworks won’t be the same experience for them that it is for us. Also, when guests are over, it can be easy for an animal to slip out a door! Keep doors and windows closed. * Consider a long walk early in the day on the Fourth, so they’re tired at night. * Make sure your pets are wearing collars with ID tags. Pets adopted from TCHS are microchipped, which is the most reliable and permanent form of identification, but your pet could be returned to you even quicker if they are wearing a tag that includes your phone number. (We sell them for $5 plus tax in our Re-Tail Shoppe!) * Create a safe spot for pets at home. Relaxing music may help soothe animals’ anxieties while the fireworks go off. Also, realize that some pets will get destructive around the home due to stress so you may want to keep valuables out of reach and try to “pet-proof” your home. * Want to help your pet stay soothed during fireworks season? Check out Feliway (for cats) and Adaptil (for dogs), sold in the TCHS Re-Tail Shoppe. These non-drug methods mimic an animal’s happy pheromones and can ease jangled nerves. #TeamTCHS 320-252-0896 https://lnkd.in/ekBqSA5
