A large part of giving a successful talk is having a great, engaging story and being able to deliver it well. That's a given (nobody likes boring recitations!) But there's also KYA—Know Your Audience. If you are unsure who's coming, it could be a struggle to extract a story worth delivering. There are so many factors affecting who's actually going to be there in the room. I want to laser focus on those who are coming — literally. In a few weeks, I am delivering a talk on the challenges and prospects of developing sophisticated Postgres extensions (https://lnkd.in/gZnHR2gc), and I'd like to know who's coming. The mechanics are simple: comment to check-in/wave 👋 here if you are coming or would have come if you were attending Postgres Conference 2024 in San Jose. Come. There will be nice little surprises for those who checked in and came! See you there. I am looking forward to delivering the best talk that is tuned just for you. P.S. I don't have a perfect reach yet. Can you help me by sharing this post? 🙏

Continue the re:invent journey after a while! Vector database is talked everywhere and I am curious about how PostgreSQL works it. If you are also interested in this topic, this 400-level talk about pgvector is amazing. Jonathan Katz covered a lot, primarily including the considerations and best practices about pgvector indexing approaches and the techniques to fine-tune the performance. Dived really deep but in very friendly manner. The proof is that even I (as a layman in vector field) can understand most of them and found it fascinating!

"The 2nd CommitFest of #PostgreSQL 18 starts today. I noticed an increase in performance-related patches. The chart below shows the top 5 topics from the last decade of CFs. We've had ~40 performance patches committed per year < 2024. This year we've had 64 already with 2 CFs to go!" https://lnkd.in/eNuZKd8a
