“Sorry, we’re short-staffed.” You’ve heard this at restaurants…but what if the same was said about the 24/7 operation of PA’s electric grid? In “The Challenge of Part-Time Power Production,” we illuminate the danger of favoring energy solutions that only work intermittently.

Chatting with Tom Watson at Money Magazine Australia was a good wake-up call to check my own energy plan and maybe switch things up because I sure don't want my summer bills going through the roof when I'm cranking up the aircon. In fact, our research has found there's a $500 to $700 a year difference between the cheapest and most expensive providers 🤯 Now, curious about how much your aircon is costing you? ❄️ If you’re running it for 5 hours a day over summer (90 days), you’re looking at around $378 on average. That 5-hour estimate comes from Aussies in our survey who shared how long they typically keep their aircon running. Here's a state and territory breakdown of running costs - the hotter the climate, the more expensive it is to stay cool: 👉 QLD: $841 👉 NSW: $$310 👉 VIC: $146 👉 SA: $398 👉 ACT: $169 👉 NT: $758 👉 WA: $287 👉 TAS: $167 I've left a link to the report in the comment. It breaks down hourly and daily running costs and what different types of air cons cost to run. Take a look if you’re curious 🤓
"Aussies are so stretched financially that they dread the prospect of a high electricity bill and are doing what they can to avoid that," Mariam Gabaji, energy expert at Finder, tells Tom Watson. #summer #energybills #hotweather

Tomorrow is a big day for the whole of the UK. Unfortunately, politics is intrinsically linked with business. Regardless of the outcome, we will have to wait and see the plans for supporting workplaces with EV charging solutions. The grants for Workplaces and Fleets have been a huge help to businesses getting chargers installed and future-proofing their car parks for business use or staff charging facilities. Currently, there is an end date for the workplace grants, now March 2025 may seem like a long time away but realistically if you are planning on getting chargers installed the whole process can take 2-3 months. If you are thinking about this now is the time to ask the questions, please drop me a message if this is something you want to learn more about. #EVCharging hashtag #Weevgotthepower

Did you know that employee commuting is the single largest source of emissions for knowledge-based companies? If you’re looking to start measuring your corporate carbon footprint, start with commuting emissions. Standard Carbon has made this as easy. Only 5 minutes to set up your account, and under a minute per employee to complete the analysis. What about the employees’ cost to commute? Wouldn’t it be great if you could help employees keep more money in their pockets! Measuring employees commuting emissions allows you to create opportunities for reduction. Incentivizing carpooling, subsidizing public transit passes, or installing secure bicycle facilities, are a few examples to reduce your corporate carbon footprint and save employees’ money. Sounds like a Win-Win. But wait, there’s more! All BizforClimate signatories will receive a 10% discount on all subscriptions if signed up before September 1, 2024. Start tracking your employees' commuting emissions today and take a meaningful step towards reducing your company's carbon footprint. Visit https://lnkd.in/gzFUtw9F to learn more.

“Adult life admin is pretty boring. I don’t understand all that stuff and I’m not interested enough to bother researching it too much. I always knew I should be doing better as a so-called responsible human being, but I never did.” For Andrew, a 42-year-old signaller from Hastings, the tedium of dealing with his household bills meant that he kept putting it off. He knew that he was probably overpaying – but still didn’t want to face the headache of getting on top of his contracts. So when his employer, Network Rail, offered Nous membership to all their employees he decided to give it a go. And after just a few days, we’d already switched him to a fairer energy deal. Andrew said: “I joined Nous through Network Rail’s intranet and signed up, and then I didn't really think about it. Nous contacted me to say they’d found me a deal with another energy supplier, and it was just a case of sending a couple of things, and the rest was done. I didn’t have to do anything other than that, it was ridiculously easy. “I think Network Rail offering us Nous shows they’re willing to really help their employees – it makes you feel really valued. They've provided a real tool to really help their employees, with potentially quite life-changing benefits.” Hear more from Andrew by going to the Nous blog (https://lnkd.in/e3knj2f9) or email jon@nous.co to find out how you can support your employees with the rising cost of living. #SavingsStories #Bills #Energy #SavingMoney
