Fractional Executive Collective with some great thought leadership exercises. I enjoyed participating and the perspectives from the discussion. As we are all good in some areas. Connections and groups like FEC are great in connecting you with other functional leaders and providing great perspective from different vantage points. #consulting #thoughtleader #Fractional #executive #CFO
As a traditional manufacturing company, modernizing with new technology can seem like a massive hurdle. But is the proverbial juice worth the squeeze? In a recent discussion on this scenario, Fractional Executive Collective members Bruce Hoffman, Terry Ziemniak, Jerome Gosset, Ph. D., and Devin M. Harris came up with some important insights that a company needs to consider when making a technological shift. 1. Financial Implications: How will this change impact the production and overall organization (e.g. competitive edge) and what is the funding needed to do so? 2. Tech Strategy: Use off-the-shelf tools for inventory management and other operations. Identify opportunities for automation not only in production and services but also in the back office. 3. Cybersecurity: Strengthen cybersecurity measures as you increase automation. 4. Data Governance: Ensure robust data governance and manage data flows securely. Terry, a Fractional CISO, sums this up: "Garbage in garbage out, and it's probably 10 times worse with AI, because no one really knows what's happening behind the scenes anyway. If you have any suspect data you could go off the rails pretty quick." 5. Incremental Improvements: Implement technology in steps to manage risks effectively. 6. Workforce Retention: Retrain employees for new roles as manual tasks are automated. 7. Competitive Analysis: Assess the true efficiency gains from automation and AI. Jerome, a Fractional Chief R&D Executive and COO, recommends you ask: "Is your competition, the automated factory, doing 3x, 4x? Or is it really a smaller efficiency play that's magnified because it has the word AI next to it?" For leaders in manufacturing, these considerations can help keep your business from major disruption when introducing new technologies and automation. #FractionalLeadership #Manufacturing
