As a trained and practicing specialist in such matters, i have seen that In such instances, hardware has been. cleared based on risk (technical, schedule and cost) assessments . in this case, the FAA, must have been part of past amd current dispositions. with the FAA delegating Oversight to Boeing, should i be surprised. titanium shortage is an issue too. finally, there have been many examples of recalls and fixes as a result of each discoveries. "know your supply chain" has been the mantra but you also need talented and engineers who can understand amd visit those suppliers. my positive takeaway from this revelation is that this is in the public discussion now, in the past these were hush hush. .

Joby had a similar defect related to the blade, causing secondary failure on other propulsors. Another example of flawed logic of achieving reliability by redundancy. More unknown unknowns to follow from multi rotor eVTOLs. https://lnkd.in/dvmCs4ci

Simpler is better and yields more accessible and maintainable aircraft all over the world. The inevitable result of this accident and Joby’s will be for propeller blades on multi-propeller EVTOL’s to be deemed “Critical Parts” like in conventional rotorcraft. This will make EVTOL’s unaffordable to produce or maintain. Better to go with electric helicopters or tiltrotors.
