December is International Sharps Injury Prevention Awareness Month. Every year, hospital employees experience 385,000 sharps injuries. One in seven healthcare professionals is injured by a contaminated sharp. These accidental injuries expose pharmacists, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous drugs that can cause serious health risks. It’s important to take this month to review safety protocols and implement safeguards to protect our healthcare professionals. #SharpsInjuryPreventionMonth #nursesafety #protecthealthcareworkers #surgeonsafety #sharpssafety #sharps #hospitalsafety

#QEHPublicNotice The medical team in the Accident and Emergency Department is currently responding to a surge in the number of patients presenting for treatment with various medical complaints. At 8am today March 24, 2024, approximately 50 patients were waiting to be seen and the average wait time currently exceeds 24 hours. It is at this time that we encourage members of the public to use the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk) at 536-4800 using regular or WhatsApp calls as your first point of contact. Our doctors will be available via the hotline from 9am to midnight during this surge to provide medical advice to help you determine if AED should be the next course of action. Currently the AED Team is working to reduce the number of patients in the department and the wait time, which has increased due to the temporary closure of the 24-hour Winston Scott Polyclinic at Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael. That facility is expected to reopen on Wednesday March 27, 2024. Life-threatening conditions, under the AED’s Triage System will continue to be seen and treated immediately. These include patients who for example, have life, limb or sight threatening complaints, gunshot wounds, heart attacks, active seizure activity or a patient who needs resuscitation. Other individuals who present to AED during the current surge will experience an extended wait for treatment. Regular updates will be provided during the surge, and we the QEH management apologise for the inconvenience, as the AED team works to reduce waiting times and offer the best possible care and treatment.

Request for Information (RFI): HHS Initiative To Enhance National All Hazards Hospital Situational Awareness The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) are seeking broad public input from entities across the health care readiness community on a national, all-hazards standardized set of essential elements of information (EEIs) and vendor-neutral data collection mechanisms for hospital data that drive action for emergency preparedness and response. This input will inform efforts to provide recommendations for a standardized lens into the readiness of, stress on, and resources available in hospitals before, during, and after emergencies. Below is the link for more detail and submission of public comments: https://lnkd.in/e2mrVM9n The public comment period ends on December 18, 2023. Your input requested on healthcare emergency information sharing. One big takeaway from #COVID #AfterActionReports, including the one we wrote for a client: If you can’t process and share information at scale, you can’t serve people in an emergency. The Feds have figured this out, apparently, and want your input. “The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) are seeking broad public input from entities across the health care readiness community on a national, all-hazards standardized set of #EssentialElementsOfInformation (#EEIs) and vendor-neutral data collection mechanisms for hospital data that drive action for emergency preparedness and response. The medical team in the Accident and Emergency Department has been working tirelessly in response to the surge in the number of patients presenting for treatment with various medical complaints. At midnight today, March 25th, 2024, approximately 26 patients were waiting to be seen, down from 71 patients recorded midnight Saturday at the height of the surge. At 7am, 11 patients were waiting to be seen in the department. While the average wait time still is still longer than ideal, there has been significant improvement in AED in this regard. We continue to encourage members of the public to use the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk) at 536-4800 as a first point of contact using regular or Whatapp Calls. From 9am to midnight during the current surge, our doctors will be able to give an initial assessment and provide advice on your next course of action for treatment. We do expect the surge may continue until Wednesday March 27th , 2024, when the 24-hour Winston Scott Polyclinic at Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael, is scheduled to reopen. A reminder, life-threatening conditions, under the AED’s Triage System will continue to be seen and treated immediately. #QEHPublicNotice
