Skilled trades are essential to our economy and society, but their culture is very resistant to change and standardization. To achieve our ambitious goals, we need to get better at providing our skilled trades professionals with better training, better support, better policy, and better technology. While we work toward cleaner energy sources, let’s also consider the livelihoods of workers who rely on these jobs. 🔹 Background: The proposed ban on new oil and gas licenses by the Labour party has sparked debate. We need to address environmental concerns while ensuring a fair transition for workers. 🔹 Campaign Objectives: Unite’s “No Ban Without A Plan” campaign emphasizes the need for a comprehensive strategy. Let’s advocate for a thoughtful transition that takes everyone’s interests into account. Let’s find a balanced path forward—one that respects both our environment and the people who contribute to it! Leading Residential HVAC Design Expert & Educator | Green Building and Home Performance Professional| Founding Shareholder of HVAC 2 Home Performance & HVAC Design Partners
This is the thinking needed to keep the HVAC Industry in the hands of its contractors that already have community trust. This protects the industry from greedy corporations that seek roll it up, cannibalize it, capitalize off the push towards electrification by turning our contracting organizations into order takers instead of the problem solvers they can and should be. This is the way.
Get ready for your annual dose of Jim Bergmann, Hopefully this one does not taste like cough syrup. Either way is a does of medicine that might be the cure. One year ago, I penned an open letter addressing the challenges posed by electrification—a task that, on the surface, may seem easy. However, this year, I stand before you with a different perspective—an evolution born of introspection and determination. As someone who spent 12 years as an educator in a high school vocational program, my initial instinct was to apply the same tried-and-true tools to tackle this issue. Yet, I soon realized that these traditional methods were inadequate for the task at hand. The ideas I'm about to share have been nurtured and developed over time, sparked by the inspiring journey of Chad Simpson at Simpson Salute. Witnessing Chad tackle a pressing issue, the labor shortage, by harnessing technology was an eye-opener. It not only propelled his company down a path towards electrification, but also resulted in some of the most prosperous years in their history. We find ourselves in an extraordinary era, with technology at our fingertips, offering us an unprecedented opportunity to revolutionize the status quo. https://lnkd.in/gZ5RTNp5 So what do you think? Does this have legs? What are the barriers we’d encounter when trying to bring this to market? Also a big thanks to Edward Louie for reviewing this article for both the feedback, push back as well as some great analogies. #betterhvac #commissioning #educaton #trades #training #hvac Comment end

This is an informative and timely article on the upcoming staffing challenges to be faced by professionals in the water and wastewater industries. This is well worth a read and eerily similar to what we have been experiencing with technicians in the fleet industry. Infrastructure and green jobs are important and the current hot topic, but let's not forget about these and other critical "blue-collar" jobs as well!

Further confirmation. When asked why we in the water sector need to embrace smart water solutions. I generally respond with. 1. Delivering realtime quality/quantity data throughout the journey from source to tap. 2. Enabling water companies become proactive and efficient. 3. The ability to create OT tools that provide incremental optimisation from data insights. 4: And as this article from Water Magazine confirms the critical threat a lack of professional expertise to both operate and implement the project investment required to meet challenges. Smart Intergrated digital tools harness vast amounts of information which when applied into water companies control systems can help fill the head count gaps.
