The literal definition of ‘rustic’ is that it relates to the countryside or a rural lifestyle. It is the embodiment of the ‘simple life’ with all that encompasses: unrefined materials, simple forms, and folk craftsmanship. Design-wise, it is a feeling and a philosophy more than a prescriptive style. Often, ‘rustic’ is interpreted as needing to look old, or rough. In our opinion, it gets better results when its inspiration is history, simplicity, authenticity, and unpretentious elegance. "The history of architecture is the history of the struggle for light." - Le Corbusier I have seen this quote a lot. Possibly one of the most influential architects in the 20th century, Le Corbusier understood that light, colour and also space are not elements that are seperate in a design but rather they are connected forces which work together. We need to think beyond the surface and consider how light transforms colour and how light and colour interact with textures as well. This can influence how people move and feel in the spaces we create. For sure, finding the right balance can change the entire feel of a room. We spend so much of our working and day to day lives indoors and so we can ask "How can the thoughtful combination of light and colour palettes enhance the environments that we are in?" The “soul” or the “integrity” of a space is often found in just the simple interaction of how colour and light work together. #Architecture #DesignThinking #ColourTheory #LeCorbusier

When it comes to classical architecture, the common perception often leans towards heavy ornamentation or an outdated aesthetic. But that's a misconception. Let's deconstruct the name itself—the term 'classical' is derived from 'classic,' which signifies something enduring, timeless, and of high quality. So, it's not about being old-fashioned or passé, but rather elegance and longevity. Classical architecture is defined by its principles of symmetry, proportion, geometry, and harmony. Ornamentation, while present in some examples, isn't a defining characteristic. What makes classical architecture so enduring is its focus on balance, order, and simplicity—elements that should continue to inspire modern design. #architecture #classicalarchitecture #designthinking #architects
