Being inside what is equivalent to an airborne ambulance can be overwhelming. From continuous radio headset communication to hand signals to the jarring effects of turbulence on an #aircraft full of the injured and ill, it all might seem rather chaotic to the inexperienced. But within the chaos, there's peace to be found. #Aeromedical personnel bring order to the chaos by knowing how to respond to emergencies. These specially trained members can precisely locate their supplies, provide critical care, reassurance, and comfort to patients, and ensure their safety. This is the #mission of the #908thAeromedicalEvacuationSquadron. Certified medical technicians and flight nurses operate in specialized aircraft equipped with medical configurations and deliver in-flight care to critically ill or injured service members while transporting them to medical treatment facilities worldwide. From ResusX:ReUnion Dr. Rory Spiegel (@EM_Nerd) details his journey of becoming proficient in using a Bougie for intubation. He recounts his early struggle and failure, followed by dedicated practice such as carrying the Bougie around during daily activities to develop fine motor skills. He also used a mannequin for repeated drilling of the intubation process. Eventually, the practice included easier real-life intubations, preparing the individual for more difficult airway management situations. #Resuscitation #EmergencyMedicine #CriticalCare #Airway

There was a pile of research up to a couple years ago which referenced the "National Emergency Airway Registry." When I try to find the actual registry itself, or a pathway by which one might access and query such registry, I run into walls. Can #EmergencyMedicine LinkedIn maybe help me out? Where is the NEAR and how does one get to it? #Airway #NationalEmergencyAirwayRegistry #EmergencyAirway #EMAirway #Critcare #criticalcare #critcareairway #airwayresearch #QI #airwayQI

https://lnkd.in/e9tR8yNc The article "History of the Medevac — How Air Ambulances Changed War" by Will Dabbs, MD, explores the pivotal role of medical evacuation via air transport in military history. Beginning with French aviator Isidore Auguste Marie Louis Paulhan, who performed the first known aerial medical evacuation during World War I by rescuing a critically ill comrade from the battlefield, the article walks through the major advancements of medevac techniques over the past 100 years. The story highlights critical milestones including the first combat helicoptor medevacs in World War II and the Korean War, where helicopters like the Bell H-13 Sioux were used to rapidly transport wounded soldiers to Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals, dramatized later in the TV show M*A*S*H. The article then details early helicopter rescue missions such as the hazardous operation by 2nd Lt. Carter Harman during World War II, who rescued downed soldiers from Japanese-occupied Burma using a fragile Sikorsky YR-4B helicopter. This mission marked the beginning of what is now known as “Dustoff” missions, which accelerated in effectiveness and efficiency during the Vietnam War with the introduction of the UH-1 Huey helicopters. The concept of the "Golden Hour," the critical first hour after injury, became a cornerstone of modern battlefield medicine, as quickly transporting injured soldiers to advanced medical facilities profoundly impacted survival rates. In the modern context, air medical evacuation has evolved to use technologically sophisticated aircraft like the Blackhawk UH-60, which can move swiftly and safely in combat zones. The integration of advanced medical capabilities onboard these aircraft, including medical personnel who can administer life-saving procedures en route, has doubled down on ensuring high survival rates for wounded soldiers. This evolution in medevac practices not only transformed military casualty care but also influenced civilian emergency medical services, illustrating how military advancements often enhance civilian medical infrastructure. The article concludes by acknowledging the significant progress from the rudimentary early days of aviation to the complex and effective systems in place today.

#Mobilitymoment Mid-Flight Medical Emergency During my flight back to the U.S. from the Middle East, a medical emergency occurred midair. Key points: 1. The call for medical assistance was communicated via a flash on the TV screens, rather than an announcement. (What if medical professionals were sleeping or not paying attention?) 2. When the flight crew accessed the medical kit to check a passenger's vitals, they discovered that the blood pressure monitor was malfunctioning and had to search for new batteries. (While batteries can fail at any time, this is something that should be regularly checked to ensure functionality during emergencies.) Although flying is generally safe, we must avoid complacency and diligently uphold best practices. Let's ensure that our friendly skies remain as safe as possible. Wishing the passenger a speedy recovery. #flight #airline #aviation #medical #emergency #transportation #bestpractices Transportation is Mobility, and Mobility is Freedom ™

State, metropolitan, community, and Tribal planning experts from across the country met in Fort Worth, Texas at the FAA Southwest Regional Office for a three-day community workshop with the Advanced Air Mobility Interagency Working Group (AAM IWG). The AAM IWG kicked off day one with interactive panel discussions with state, local, Tribal, and territorial government representatives, talking about broad community challenges, community planning efforts, and AAM intermodal use cases. Day two focused on aviation workforce development, a key directive for the AAM IWG. We heard from local high school and college students about the new aviation technologies that they are learning in the classroom, and how AAM is helping support aviation careers in the U.S. Day three featured emergency medical service providers and first responders who shared their perspectives on the opportunities and issues presented by AAM. The AAM IWG has convened to advance a unified national strategy for AAM and continues to prioritize a whole-of-government approach to inform and recommend comprehensive policy solutions to enable emerging aviation technologies. Learn more about the AAM IWG and our report to Congress later this year: https://bit.ly/3Sw6gRB #AAM #AAMIWG #AAMJobs #AdvancedAirMobility #FutureOfFlight #AirTaxi #AviationTech
