Giving for Change programme activities focus on three core areas: 1. Community level: Giving for Change promotes community philanthropy through action research, peer learning, and small grants. It empowers communities to build local assets, agency, and trust, enabling them to organize resources for local priorities. 2. National level: Giving for Change aims to advocate for state and other stakeholders' support in integrating community philanthropy into national development strategies. This involves creating conducive environments for giving and strengthening multi-stakeholder networks and alliances. 3. Global level: Giving for Change actively participates in sector-wide discussions and debates in philanthropy and international development. Its goal is twofold: to influence these sectors and to foster more equitable partnerships. Thanks to Alliance magazine for publishing this article from our Eliza Baring on #FundingJustice. 💷 As Eliza shows, when mapping all UK foundation giving in 2021/2022 we found that just 5.7% of grants went towards work to tackle injustice. ✊🏽 The majority of this social justice funding went to service delivery work, or work in elite settings. Less than 10% went towards the power-building work of community organising, activism, or street-level mobilisation. 🌟 Not only is this work essential for communities who have been excluded from elite settings getting their voices heard, it is also how we win. Does your organisation want to grow in 2024? 🌱 Growth requires the willingness to 'embrace' change. 🌱 Waltham Forest Community Hub has embraced many changes... https://lnkd.in/eW3HkYWS * we pivoted to pick up increasing needs due to the cost of living crisis (providing more housing advice & introducing 1-1 energy warmth advice), * reviewed our fundraising strategy and increased our focus on raising funds (increasing income by 12%), * our Trustee Board doubled the number of trustees, * we restructured and increased our leadership capacity, * we won the Prestige Community Centre of the year Award and were a nominee of a Charity Times Award. * What an incredible year! 🌱 My greatest learning has been to say 'NO' to sitting on Tables that don't support our charity or serve our purpose. 🌱 Our energy & time is precious. Since capacity is so limited in small charities to prevent you from burnout: 1️⃣ put your greatest attention to cutting back by saying 'NO', 2️⃣ Ask for more money from Funders, Sponsors & Donors and 3️⃣ Be innovative about increasing capacity. Our goal is to improve Pinawa through social, environmental, and economic development. The CFEK Communities Committee recently met to review a number of great applications from across our region and had the tough decision of choosing three nonprofits to receive $5,000 each to support their Community Economic Development (CED) projects. Congratulations to: 🎉 Golden Community Economic Development 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. This project aims to engage the community of Golden and CSRD in visioning what the Kicking Horse River (from the mouth of the canyon to the confluence with the Columbia River) would best look like 10-15 years from now, thereby enhancing the community's connection to the river. 🎉𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲. This role aims to unite nonprofits and create a community hub for RDEK AREA B, thereby fostering collaboration, understanding community needs for projects and services, and addressing service gaps. 🎉𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀' 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆. This study will investigate the opportunities of using space at the Mountainview School in Sparwood to increase the number of full-time day-care spaces for those under 5, support before and after school care, provide offices for child support services and also allow space for other community programs to use. Community development starts and ends with people, not policies, stats, data, or other things. People. I believe in a participatory approach to community development. I have been in enough places to see the harms of 'experts' doing development to people and expecting it to take hold. Development happens when we open spaces for discourse and learning and focus on developing capacity at every level. What does community development mean to you?

3 tips for #communitydevelopment as a non-profit Engage and Empower Local Residents: One of the foundational steps in community development is to actively involve the local residents in decision-making processes. This fosters a sense of ownership and ensures that the initiatives are tailored to the community's actual needs and desires. Organize regular town hall meetings, focus groups, and surveys to gather input and feedback. Provide platforms for residents to voice their ideas and concerns and empower them to take lead roles in certain projects. This collaborative approach not only strengthens community bonds but also enhances the sustainability of the projects. Build Strong Partnerships: Collaboration with other organizations, businesses, and government agencies can amplify your impact. Identify potential partners who share your vision and values, and work together to pool resources, knowledge, and expertise. Establishing a network of support can help in leveraging various grants and funding opportunities, and it also opens up avenues for joint initiatives that can address multiple aspects of community development. Regularly communicate with your partners and maintain transparent relationships to ensure a cohesive and united effort towards common goals.
