As philanthropic advisors, we were encouraged by this Financial Times article highlighting the potential of funder collaboratives for greater impact. We've witnessed firsthand how these collaboratives enable philanthropists and nonprofits to unite, delegating decision-making to individuals with lived and learned expertise. This approach centers on those who both need and understand the scale of social change required. The shift of power and resources to those facing injustice is crucial, not only for democracy but also for equity and long-term transformation. https://lnkd.in/eJ6d9HjE

"Now more than ever, we need the leadership, vision, and brilliance of our nonprofit partners. A more equitable, just approach to accountability is fundamental to supporting them. When funders relinquish control and take responsibility for how we show up, we can cultivate relationships that unleash bold solutions." -Lorrie Fair Allen, Ashlee George, Charlize Theron | Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project For the future of #philanthropy to truly be trust-based we must signal to #nonprofits that accountability goes both ways and must be rooted in mutuality, relationships, and power analysis. "By prioritizing trust through sufficient funding and genuine communication, funders, intermediaries, and grassroots groups can build strong, transparent relationships that lay the foundation for more impactful, transformative collaboration." Intermediaries and fiscal sponsors can play a vital role in connecting philanthropic resources with historically overlooked causes and marginalized communities. "However, for this funding chain to be genuinely empowering rather than exploitative, there are entrenched power dynamics and mental models we must confront," writes Phoebe So, Co-Lead, Fenomenal Funds, on the Center for Effective Philanthropy blog. 💭 Intermediaries can work to change these dynamics by embracing risk and nurturing partnerships built on trust, transparency, and support. https://buff.ly/3XNk5hz

🎯 Impact measurement is a moving target. That's why we're committed to continuously improving our models. Since 2023, we've gained some useful insights and made updates accordingly. Here's a peek at what we've learned: 1️⃣ Impact estimates should not be the only investment criteria. 2️⃣ Nonprofits often struggle to understand their own impact — philanthropies can provide needed support. 3️⃣ Relative income increase is a useful metric, especially when comparing projects internationally. Get all the details in Spencer MacColl's blog post at the link in the comments. #impact #impactmeasurement #philanthropy #funding
