We’ve removed 287.500 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, using engineered removal technologies, that’s only 0.1147% of the 10 gigaton goal… The latest State of Carbon Dioxide Removal report highlights that the novel CDR industry is still far from reaching its desired climate impact. Here are some of the things we believe are needed to reach our goal: Investments: Despite there being countless individuals working to solve the CDR puzzle and deploy high-value technologies, only 1.1% of all investments in climate-tech start-ups are directed to the CDR industry. Policy: Compliance is critical in driving change within companies, we need policies that enhance commitment to CDR. CDR needs to continue climbing up the agendas of policymakers, investors and companies if we are to stay below 2 degrees celsius of warming. Enhanced MRV standards: While we need a lot of external input, the industry needs to work on developing more robust, transparent and trustworthy Monitoring, Reporting and Verification tools. Growth can only be enabled with the support of a strong MRV ecosystem, one that avoids overlap to create trust amongst policymakers, investors and companies. Finally, we need a strong voice! Whilst CDR is slowly becoming more well-known, we urgently need people to present our industry to a wider audience and engage with local policymakers. Only when enough people come together to work and support the CDR industry can we achieve our end goal. We need voices that make us more visible. Founder - ReviveBattery BV | Speaker | Sustainability | On a mission to circularise the lead battery industry | HEC Paris ‘23 WE4G
Can lead acid battery regeneration improve environmental sustainability? During production, LABs release 0.628 kg of CO2 per kg of lead, amounting to a total of 3,606 million kg. But what if regenerating LABs could cut CO2 emissions by 0.535 kg per battery per year? This could reduce global emissions by 3,072 million kg. Regenerating batteries extends lifespan and cuts emissions. It also saves resources. This aligns with climate neutrality goals. Let's increase the adoption of battery regeneration with ReviveBattery B.V for a greener future. It will cut emissions and save resources. #climateneutrality #circulareconomy #carbonfootprint #regenerativeeconomy

Carbon Dioxide Removal - a term that you probably know! Today, we’re answering the question: “What exactly is carbon dioxide removal?” ☁️While reducing emissions remains paramount, it is no longer enough to ensure a liveable future for generations to come. This is where carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) comes in. CDR can be closer defined as activities, that… 1️⃣ remove existing CO2 from the atmosphere and 2️⃣ durably store it in geological formations, ocean reservoirs, or products. 🌱 Various methods exist for removing carbon from the atmosphere, each differing in their removal and storage processes, as well as in the duration the carbon is stored. Conventional CDR on land such as afforestation provide relatively short-term carbon storage, while more novel approaches such as Biochar Carbon Removal (#BCR), Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (#BECCS), Direct Air Capture with Carbon Capture and Storage (#DACCS), Enhanced Weathering (#ERW) and ocean-based CDR can securely store carbon for extended periods. ➡️ In summary: Carbon removal lowers the overall concentration of CO2 already in the atmosphere, accelerating the journey towards #netzero. 💡 Want to learn more about using #carbonremoval for climate change mitigation? Why #Carbon Footprint Is Increasing? The increasing carbon footprint of our planet is a pressing concern, significantly impacting the environment and human well-being. While natural causes contribute, human activities remain the dominant force behind rising #greenhousegas (#GHG) #emissions. Here, we explore the primary factors fueling this surge: 1️⃣ Population Growth: A burgeoning global population drives the need for more goods and services, leading to increased industrial activity. This surge, especially in nations like China and the United States, contributes substantial CO2 emissions, intensifying the problem. 2️⃣ Energy Consumption: As the population grows, the demand for energy escalates. Our reliance on electricity, primarily from thermal power plants burning fossil fuels, significantly adds to the expanding carbon footprint. 3️⃣ #Transportation: Modern transportation, powered by fossil fuels, contributes significantly to carbon emissions. Vehicles, railways, aircraft, and ships release substantial CO2 into the atmosphere, amplifying environmental impacts. 4️⃣ #Agriculture and Cattle Farming: Increasing food demand drives agricultural expansion, often leading to deforestation. Clearing forests for agriculture and grazing releases stored carbon dioxide, contributing to greenhouse gas concentrations. Agricultural practices like fertilizer use can also indirectly contribute to emissions. 5️⃣ #Industrialization: Industrial activities, especially in energy production, steel manufacturing, oil refineries, and chemical industries, contribute nearly half of global greenhouse gas emissions. Fossil fuel combustion and industrial waste gases significantly add to the surging carbon footprint. Understanding these contributors is pivotal in formulating effective strategies to curb emissions and mitigate the impact on our environment. #CarbonFootprint #GreenhouseGas #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalImpact #EmissionsFactors #GlobalWarming #Sustainability #PopulationGrowth #EnergyConsumption #CattleFarming #Deforestation #FossilFuels #Sustainability #ClimateAction #NetZero #Decarbonization Follow me (Harshal) for exciting #ESG and #Zerocarbon trivia.
