𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗺𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even the most technologically advanced captain can't weather every storm alone. That's why, when I needed to answer a critical question about a remote stretch of coastline, I knew the map and advanced GPS wouldn't suffice. So, I did what any seaworthy captain would do: 𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘆𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗯. In business, it's no different. While data and information are crucial, success often hinges on the human element: 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲. And that's the very approach I bring to guiding my clients venturing into global waters. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 – these are the cornerstones of success. I adopted a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵. Back to my own sailing journey, Instead of relying solely on technology, I charted a course towards a local sailing club. ⛵ The Laguna Madre Yatch Club. It was a strategic move, not just for the information I sought, but for the potential connections I could forge. They hold social nights every other Saturday, and while their hospitality, like their beef stroganoff, was undeniably Croatian (a delightful surprise!), my main course was information. As an exchange, I brought them (delicious strawberry shortcake) to the table, ready to learn and contribute.** The evening yielded invaluable insights, not just about that tricky stretch of water, but also about the local sailing community as a whole. While some might categorize them as "quiet old ranglers," I saw seasoned veterans, a wealth of collective wisdom and experience. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of building bridges, of seeking out diverse perspectives, and of venturing beyond the familiar harbor. True leadership, like successful sailing, demands both knowledge and collaboration. Even the most well-equipped vessel needs a skilled crew and a supportive network to navigate the ever-changing seas of business. So, set your business sail with an open mind, work a meaningful connections, and embrace the wisdom waiting to be discovered in unexpected places. Svolvaer is the capital of Lofoten and the gateway to this beautiful archipelago, serving as the entry and exit point (and yes, this city has an airport). Compared to other settlements in Lofoten, Svolvaer, with a population of over 4,700 inhabitants, is quite a large town. And while this town is not as picturesque as Lofoten’s gems – Reine and Henningsvær, there are plenty of things to do in Svolvaer. First of all, have a walk in the downtown and visit Svolvaer’s impressive art galleries. Then, you can have a relaxed walk to the Svinøya island and observe red rorbuer (fishermen’s cabins) that have been ideally preserved. And, of course, you can have a lot of fun on your visit to Svolvaer. For instance, don’t hesitate to drop by the Magic Ice Bar and appreciate the sophisticated ice sculptures while sipping a drink from the ice glass. Or set out on a guided tour to the local Lofotpils Brewery and try their outstanding craft beer. After all, try yourself at solving puzzles and riddles at the thematic Lofoten Escape Room. Or you can relax in the newest attraction in Svolvaer: the floating fjord sauna. Naturally, there are interesting activities that travelers prefer to try here, and taking the Trollfjord cruise from Svolvaer is an absolute must. 𝐃𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 Alkmaar-based shipping company De Bock Maritiem is celebrating its 25th anniversary today (Friday 5 July). Along with this anniversary, the two new sustainable short-sea vessels Amadeus Sapphire and Sardius will be unveiled and christened. Godmothers performing the christening ceremony are Marjan de Bock-Smit and Annelies Hutter. The festivities take place in Werkendam, which for one day will be transformed into an “Alkmaar enclave” as a nod to De Bock Maritiem’s origins and location. Werkendam is where De Bock’s vessels are built. The 3600-tonne Amadeus Sapphire and Sardius are dry cargo vessels with a low profile, making the vessels suitable for navigation on the Rhine and other inland waterways. Due to innovation and craftsmanship, compared to an average vessel from the current European short-sea fleet of this tonnage, these vessels will emit as much as fifty per cent less. The vessels were designed by Conoship International. The new acquisitions reflect De Bock Maritiem’s commitment to Dutch quality and sustainability. Holland Shipyards built the vessels. The overall energy efficiency of the new ships will already be some thirty per cent higher than the international standard – the so-called Phase 3 requirement of the Energy Efficiency Design Index – effective from 2025. This is achieved through very low power, diesel-electric propulsion and optimised propeller and hull shapes, among other things.
